Dorothy Ann Steadman

Dorothy Ann Steadman, in sacred patience and faith, returned to her Heavenly Father on October 22, 2023. She was welcomed in heaven in a joyous reunion with her sweetheart Max, infant daughter Kim, and her parents, family, and friends who preceded her. She was 89 years old. Dorothy was born on July 3, 1934, to Delbert John Lloyd and LaVerda Okerlund, in Lyman, Wayne County, Utah.

A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dorothy married Roland Max Steadman, Sr on June 20, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple. They began their life together, living in the Crescent, Utah area, and became the noble, loving, and faithful parents of 8 children. They raised these precious children, spanning experiences in Boston Massachusetts, Los Angeles California, Star Valley Wyoming, Logan and Bountiful Utah.

Dorothy was a loyal and committed wife and mother. She supported her husband as he earned multiple degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah and Utah State University. She loved and managed a family and home, caring for each child with a love that felt personal and dedicated to each one. She cared for her children in health and sickness and rejoiced in their successes and cried with them in their challenges. She blessed them with the wisdom of heaven and taught them in the way of the Lord and the expectations of the covenants they would make. She defended them fiercely and loved them tenderly. While supporting her husband and raising a family she served in the Parent Teachers Association at her children’s schools. She was a cancer survivor and an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and she served as an Election Judge in Davis County, Utah. She served faithfully in the Church, devoting her time in leadership and teaching callings in the Primary and Relief Society organizations. One of her seasons of joyful service included serving with Max as ordinance workers at the Idaho Falls Temple. Together with her Sweetheart, they ran a successful family farm and an electrical appliance sales and repair store. Upon retirement, together they opened a successful Bed and Breakfast, The Inn at Deer Run, in Star Valley. They worked hard, beyond their energy and brought comfort, enjoyment, and happiness into the lives of others, during that venture. When Max fell ill and finished his mortal journey, Dorothy waited as patiently as she could, never wavering in her desires to rejoin him and return to her Heavenly Father. She was very close to Max in the days before her passing.

Dorothy is survived in death by her children: Jill (Roy) Moffat, Hurricane UT; Roland Max, Jr (Diann), Logan, UT; Kathryn Steadman, Logan, UT; Kathleen Spear; Declo, ID; Lori (Len) Gross, Alamosa CO; Todd (Pamela), Clinton, UT; Jonathan (Janeal), McKinney, TX; 35 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren; sister Carmen Houmand, and brothers Clair and Scott Lloyd.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her eternal companion, Max, infant daughter Kim, granddaughters Tiffany Miller, Kirstin Mortensen, great granddaughter Saige, three great grandsons: Miles, Chase and Taylor, her parents, and her brother Preston Lloyd.

Friends may visit the family in a viewing at the Larkin Mortuary-Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South, Riverton, Utah Friday, October 27, 2023, from 10:30am to 11:30am. Honoring Dorothy’s wishes, a graveside Service will be held at 12:00pm at the West Jordan Cemetery, 7800 South 1300 West, West Jordan, UT.

On behalf of our entire family, we would like to express our deep gratitude to Legacy House of Logan and Intermountain Health Care and Hospice, for the wonderful care they have provided to Dorothy over the past 7 months. We especially express our gratitude to the staff, numerous nurses, med-techs, and other healthcare professionals, who have cared for her so gently, and unconditionally, during perhaps what has been the most difficult chapter of her life. For this, we will be forever grateful.
