  • Our loving husband, son, brother and friend passed away on February 4, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Doug was born May 15, 1961, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of David Vardon and Margaret Watkins Behunin. Doug was raised in Bountiful, Utah where he attended and graduated from Bountiful High School. Doug was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the South Dakota, Rapid City Mission from 1981 to 1983. Unbeknownst to Doug his future wife, Sarah, lived inside of the mission boundaries when and where he served. Their paths would again cross as they met online May 17, 2006, and after a short online relationship they went on their first date July 22, 2006. Doug married the love of his life, Sarah Lynn Hanham on May 18, 2007, in the Bountiful LDS Temple.

Doug graduated from LDS Business College with an Associates Degree in Business Administration and a certificate for Medical Billing and Coding. He also graduated from The University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. Doug worked for over 15 years for the International Hotel Group as a Customer Service Representative, until his health kept him from working.

Doug was an avid reader. He loved to travel to places, like the beaches of California, Alaska and Hawaii just to name a few. He was a loving son as well as a loving husband and friend. Sarah and Doug loved each other dearly and were inseparable as they did everything together.

Doug is survived by his wife Sarah; mother, Margaret Watkins Bassett; stepmother, Nancy Behunin; brothers, Stephen D. Behunin, Paul V. Behunin, and Jonathan P. Behunin; father and mother-in-law, Jack D. and Judith E Hanham; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his father, David Vardon Behunin.

Cryptside services will be held, Friday, February 11, 2022, at 2:30 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy, Utah. Family and friends are invited to gather at a viewing at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary from 1:15 to 2:15 pm Friday prior to services, at the same address.

Entombment will be in Larkin Sunset Gardens Mausoleum of The Last Supper.

I am so sorry for your loss. I went to high school with Doug but we were in different graduating classes so I didn’t get to know him well. I remember that he was always kind and thoughtful, even to the younger students like me. I am privileged to have know such a tender soul.
