Douglas William Ovard, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Sandy, Utah, on May 5th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 10th, 1934, in Saint Anthony, Idaho, and grew up in Holladay, Utah, where he formed lifelong bonds, including a cherished friendship with Moss Wagstaff and close relationships with his four siblings.
Doug lived a life marked by faith, hard work, and service. He had a long and successful career as a business owner and salesman, and he took particular pride in his work as a banker with Brighton Bank. He was known for his integrity, tireless work ethic, and belief that "honesty is the best policy."
A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Doug served two missions-one in his youth to the Great Lakes Mission, and later alongside his wife in Saint Croix, Virgin Islands. He was married to the love of his life, Marilyn Ruth Boyce, whom he met at a dance. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on November 18th, 1954. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising five children and caring for two beloved foster children. Doug served faithfully in numerous church callings and was always generous with both his time and his means, finding joy in lifting others.
Doug's vibrant personality and love of life were evident to all who knew him. He was passionate about music-especially the organ and piano-and had a lifelong fascination with fast cars. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing volleyball and basketball in his younger years and later became an avid tennis player. He loved watching golf and rarely missed a Kansas City Chiefs game.
Above all, Doug will be remembered for his big heart, quick wit, and the joy he brought to others. He had a gift for humor, a deep love for his family, and an enduring desire to serve. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and unwavering faith.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn; children Jennifer Barber (Robert), Douglas Ovard Jr. (Gina), and Ben Ovard (Francia); foster children Laura Murphy and Ben Chung; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Helen Ovard; daughters Lori Webster and Carolyn Ovard; son-in-law Robert Barber; and brother Richard Ovard.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 12th, at 11:00 AM, with a viewing from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the LDS Church located at 10945 S. 1700 E., Sandy, Utah 84092. A separate evening viewing will take place on Sunday May 11th, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the same location. All who knew and loved Doug are invited to attend and celebrate a life so well lived.

I have such Happy Memories of my childhood and the great times I had with Uncle Doug and Aunt Marilyn and all my cousins. Snow mobile ing at there Cabin, going to Bear Lake, horse back riding and just being at their home spending the night. Uncle Doug took films that were so fun to watch . He was a wonderful Uncle and the best husband and father one could ever have. He did so much for everyone and cared deeply for others. Our last lunch with my mom and Aunt Marilyn and Jen will be one of my fondest memories. All my love , Barbie
I served with Brother and Sister Ovard as a Missionary on the island of St. Croix. I looked up to Brother Ovard as a father. Brother Ovard was kind, funny, extremely intelligent and a true representative of Jesus Christ. I will miss his laugh and will forever cherish his testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Until we meet again my friend.
We are so sorry that we all have a lost asuper guy. Family gatherings will not be the same. I loved Doug's wry since of humor, you never knew what was coming next. Doug's life was well lived. We were lucky to have had him so long. Happy to have called him brother in law¡. Much love to Marilyn and family.
Uncle Doug and Aunt Marilyn were always the life of the party and always so much fun to be around. As a child, I was always in awe of him and his many talents. I loved listening to him play the piano and often tried to pick a song he couldn’t play; my efforts were always in vain as he knew every song from heart! I loved coming to visit him because he always made me feel so loved and welcomed. He was a great man.
Had the pleasure of dealing with Doug in a professional manner. He was an honest and honorable man who ran his business in the same way. I looked forward to our weekly visits, RIP my friend, one of the finest men I have had the pleasure to know. Thoughts and prayers to the entire Ovard family.
We will all miss Uncle Doug, he was a great man. Sending Aunt Marilyn and all their children and grandchildren our love.
