Dr. Duane Grant Lund

1928 ~ 2023

Duane G. Lund peacefully made his transition from this world into the next surrounding by loved ones on Friday, January 13, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

His good friends called him “Dewey”.

Duane was born on September 16, 1928 in Salt Lake City to parents Sherman and Irene Lund. He was raised in Pocatello, Idaho until he was 12 years old and then his family moved back to Holladay, Utah. He had one brother, Richard, who predeceased him in 1984.

Duane attended Irving Junior High School and graduated from South High in Salt Lake City in 1946. He then attended the University of Utah, graduating with a B.S. degree and went on to attend The Chicago College of Optometry, graduating with a Doctor of Optometry (0.D.) degree in 1951. While attending optometry school in Chicago, he met and fell in love with Jean Emily Brennan. They were married in April 1949. They had four children, Keith Lund, Nancy Stroud (Lund), Curtis Lund and Craig Lund.

Duane loved his profession and practiced optometry in his own practice until he was 83 years old. He practiced at Daynes Optical in downtown Salt Lake City, then at the Vision Clinic in Trolley Square and then at the Vision Clinic in Ivy Place in Murray, Utah. Duane also had an optometric practice in Delta, Utah one day a week, which he would drive or fly his plane down to every Tuesday for many years, rain or shine.

Duane is survived by his three sons, Keith (Jeanne), Curtis and Craig. Also by his grandchildren, Michael Lund, Brook Lund, Travis Stroud (Sarah) and Bonnie Stroud. He has two great-grandchildren, Raegan Tomasello and Amyrah Stroud. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Stroud (Lund) in 2006.

Duane’s greatest joys in life was spending time with his family, especially his beautiful little great-granddaughters, flying his plane and anything to do with outdoors in the West, from fishing to skiing to camping.

He certainly had a great life.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
