Webster Jee

1925 ~ 2018

Webster "Web" Jee passed on April 3, 2018 with his family at his hospital bedside from complications related to recent strokes at the age of 92. Born in Oakland, Calif. to parents Kee Main Jee and Jong Shee, he had a passion for athletics competing on the Oakland Tech High School Basketball and track teams to Northern California Championships and was nicknamed by the local newspapers as "Jumping -Jack Jee". He enlisted in the Air Corps in WWII in 1943 and was B-17 Flight Officer and Navigator until 1946. His military training included Alabama, Texas and Arizona and. began a lifelong passion for travel. He attended the U. of Calif. Berkeley where he initially competed on the college basketball team. He met the love of his life Alice Jee while working at a restaurant during school. After receiving at baccalaureate and Masters Degree in Zoology, Web and Alice married in Las Vegas on the way to visit her relatives in Salt Lake City. He initially started as a research assistant in the Anatomy and Radiobiology Departments at the U. of Utah while working on a Ph.D. while his wife Alice was a restaurant hostess and manager. He taught Anatomy and Bone Biology to Medical students for 25 yrs. Web was a pioneer in the fields of Radiation effects on bone during the Cold War and Bone diseases including studying developing treatment for osteoporosis. He established a laboratory and initially trained dentists and later numerous research students from Japan and China on bone research and founded the Sun Valley Annual Workshop which is in its 46th year.

He is survived by his sister Jane Wong, brother Frank Jee, Oakland, Cal., son Kenneth (Noriene) and granddaughter Alexandrea. Preceded in death by his wife and 3 brothers.

Web loved to travel and mostly visit his "Bone Morphology Family" to talk about BONES and made sure that the trip ended with his desires to Eat, Drink and Be Merry! He would always say keep it short during his presentations abroad and at home and would always say goodbye with a sentence ending with Cheers Everyone! He will be dearly missed.

His friends, family, colleagues and students are invited to a Celebration of Life which will be held at the New Golden Dragon Restaurant, 1716 S State, Salt Lake City, Utah 84115 on April 28th, 2018 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the ICMRS Web Jee Young Investigator Award or the Alice Jee Memorial Travel Award, U of Utah Health Science Development Office
