Janet Young Hammond died May 19, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah at age 86. She was born on February 11, 1932 to Dow Harold Young and Effay VanCott Young. Janet married her eternal companion, Harlan Young Hammond on December 22, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death.

She was a school teacher and music specialist in the Granite School District for many years.

Janet received her education degree from the University of Utah while her husband was serving in the Korean War. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served as an organist in several wards, and the Jordan River Temple. She is survived by her children, Karen H. Nelson (Richard), Harlan Y. Hammond, Jr. (Julia), Peter Y. Hammond (Jennylyn), and Lark H. Morton (Michael), 13 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
