Edward Arnold White, age 89, passed away on June 29, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born on May 30, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Ed was the son of Arnold Dee White and Erma Ruth Manwill. He grew up in Salt Lake and graduated from Olympus High School, later earning both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Business from the University of Utah (later mysteriously becoming an avid BYU football fan).
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ed served a full-time mission in France, where he shared his deep love for the gospel of Jesus Christ. He continued to serve faithfully in many callings throughout his life, including two full time senior couple missions, and had a lasting impact on the young men he mentored and taught.
On February 12, 1959, Ed married the love of his life, Darlene Zundel, in the Salt Lake Temple. Their eternal partnership was blessed with eight children and a growing posterity of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom knew and adored him as the ever- playful, joke-cracking “Silly Grandpa.”
Ed was an entrepreneur at heart and spent much of his career in real estate, ensuring deals always benefited both parties. He also served proudly in the Army National Guard.
Beyond his professional and spiritual life, Ed lived fully. He had a deep love for classical music and opera, a competitive spirit on the softball field, and an endless sense of adventure. He led his family on countless camping, hiking, and boating trips across Utah and other nearby National Parks. His mischievous humor and love for practical jokes were legendary, whether he was delivering a dad joke, challenging someone with a riddle, or suggesting food be eaten through one’s ears. He was a master of homemade ice cream and mashed potatoes.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Darlene White, and their eight children: Michele Thorn (Danny), Scott White (Janay), Heidi Alder (Mark), Holli Hill (Brad), Jared White (Marcie), Nicole Ungerman (Shawn), Steve White, Marianne McCullough (Richard).
He is also survived by a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will forever remember his laughter, wit, kindness, and sense of adventure.
Funeral services will be held on July 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Dimple Dell Ward, 10945 South 1700 East, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the services at the same location starting at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
