Obituary Photo for Eileen Verda Mears

Eileen Verda Mears passed quietly through the veil on December 2, 2020. She was born to William and Clara Mayne on June 8, 1941 in Salt Lake City, UT. She graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City. She married her husband James W Mears for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 7, 1961. She loved sports, especially the St Louis Cardinals baseball team. Her musical talents were often displayed in piano and organ at home and church, as well as leading countless church choirs.
Quietly leading in every role in her life, she transformed countless houses into loving homes, following many moves and transfers. Her sense of humor and kind smile were loved by many patrons as she served for over 22 years in the Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including serving with her husband in the St Louis Temple Presidency.
Eileen retired from Amoco/BP, after over 15 years. Her retirement send-off included a trip to the pitcher’s mound in Busch Stadium, to throw out the opening pitch for her Cardinals.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Linda Mayne and brother Ken Mayne. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James W Mears of Colbert, WA; son J Kenneth (Diane) Mears of Riverton ,UT; son R Todd (Charlene) Mears of Monument, CO; son John (Ilise) Mears of Colbert, WA; daughter Susan (Scott) Kelly of Sioux Falls, SD, 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who know her. Her influence will be felt by many more.
