Joy Holladay Johnson

1921 ~ 2018

Joy Holladay Johnson was born November 9, 1921 to Isaiah Cornelius Holladay and Effie Christine Larson Holliday in Santaquin Utah. She died September 19, 2018. Joy grew up helping on the farm with her siblings. Joy had a lifelong love affair with music. Her older sister Viola taught her how to play the piano, starting at age 5. By 11 she was playing in Sunday school and continued playing the piano and the organ in church the rest of her life. Joy sang with the Schubert Singers for many years. She sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for 5 Ω years going on tour with them to Europe, Brazil, Korea and Japan. She was the librarian for the choir. Joy was always active singing and playing the piano her whole life. She even played the baritone horn in the marching band in High School.

After graduating from High School Joy moved to Salt Lake City where she attended LDS Business College and then got a job as a book keeper for the Lang Company. Joy then worked many years for the Bennett Paint and Glass company and ended up as the personal secretary for Senator Wallace F. Bennett.

Joy loved figurines and had a large collection of different kinds that she enjoyed. She especially loved collecting elephants.

Joy married W. Kent Johnson on February 13, 1982 in the Salt Lake City Temple. He died in 1994. With this union she became the step mother to his 5 children. Joneen (John) Matsen, Judy (Allen) Theobald (both Deceased), Kendall (Connie) Johnson, Wendy (Gene) Riggs, and Jeanne (Rick) Black.

Joy helped raise her sisters' daughter Joan McDaniel Fullmer. She has remained close to her and her husband Don Fullmer (deceased) and her 4 children; Teresa (Steve) Wiser, Michael (Joan) Fullmer, Cindy (Paul) Robinson and David Fullmer.

Joy was very kind and had many dear friends. Joy will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29, at 12 noon at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, SLC, UT. A viewing will be held prior to services, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment at the Provo City Cemetery.
