Elaine Fischer Stanley, beloved wife, mother, grandma, and grandma great, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on January 25, 2025, in South Jordan, Utah.

Elaine was born on September 25, 1935, in Los Angeles, California, to Mary and Carl Fischer who emigrated to the United States from Denmark. Elaine was proud of her heritage and the fact she was a “pure-blooded Dane.” The bill for Elaine’s birth was a mere $100.00 but she is priceless to her family.

She was the youngest of two children and always had a special bond with her sister Elinor whom she could talk on the phone with for over four hours at a time. She also had three siblings from her father’s previous marriage.

Elaine graduated from Glendale High School and attended a year of college at Brigham Young University on a scholarship. She was a talented bookkeeper and worked at several businesses including the California Board of Education, Gingiss Formal Wear and Dr. David Garrett’s dental practice.

Elaine met her eternal companion Lynn on a blind date at a rodeo. They were married in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent 65 years together blessing others. They raised four children, Gary (KayLynn), Susan (Jeff), Kim, and Jane (Ross), and multiplied their love to foster three Native American children, Ernie and Ernest Hinton, and Joey Mack.

Elaine devoted her talents to Church service in many positions including Young Women’s President, and as a counselor in the Stake Young Women’s Presidency. In her later years she served in the Draper Utah Temple which embodied her life. Her children were raised in a home full of love and laughter. They fondly remember family nights every Monday where they gathered around the piano to sing “Love at Home” and took turns teaching and learning about Jesus Christ.

This extraordinary woman has blessed generations of our family which include 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. When we think of Grandma the first thing that comes to mind is her love of the holidays, especially her gorgeous Christmas tree brimming with treasured ornaments. We have priceless memories of gathering around her tree for family Christmas parties to hand out presents followed by talent shows.

We also feasted on her countless holiday dinners with all the fixings including a massive turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes and her famous homemade rolls. Her Easter egg hunts were legendary with the grandchildren. Grandma would hide over a hundred plastic eggs which resulted in a very competitive, epic hunt.

Grandma’s talents also extended to crocheting where she made blessing blankets that two generations of babies are now being wrapped in to receive a name and a blessing. Some of her happiest moments were snuggling and singing to a newborn grandchild or great-grandchild.

Grandma taught us what it meant to be a family through her selfless service and unconditional love. Her testimony of Jesus Christ is her greatest legacy. She was a woman of courage and endured to the end. For this and more, “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her” (Proverbs 31:28).

A viewing will be held on Saturday, February 1, from 10:00-10:45 AM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Road (10600 S), Sandy, UT 84092. The funeral will follow at 11:00 AM at the same location and will be livestreamed. To join the service virtually, please click the "Watch Services" button above. I was also a victim of Elaine’s love and kindness. I remember spending a lot of time at the Stanley house growing up. I also called her mom or Ma Stanley. She will be missed but she can still be seen in her children and their families. I will never forget the impact that Elaine and Lynn had on me. God bless you!

Dear Lynn,
We adore your beautiful Elaine. We will miss her, but smiles abound when we think of her great legacy. Her love of family, passion for making holidays magical and fun, desire to serve and touch others, and strong and personal connection to the Savior, are all things that we will remember with fondness. We are better people for having known her. An example to all.

Grandma you are so missed. Thank you for loving my kids so fiercely! We loved surprising you guys with visits. And the kids always enjoyed the toys you had. Thadeus even remembers the cars you had him play with last time we were there. We love you and will miss your enthusiasm for each new grandkid that came into the family. Thanks for letting me always stay in your basement when I needed a place to stay while visiting. You always took care of me. And your Easter egg hunts were so fun! Thank you, love you, miss you.

Gary, Sue, Kim and Jane, thank you all for your heartfelt and uplifting words at today’s service — what a lovely and fitting tribute! Sorry for your loss, but also grateful for the memories of having been blessed and lifted by the love, warmth and goodness that your mom not only emanated but instilled in others. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant” indeed!

Uncle Lynn, my heart was sad upon hearing the news of your beloved Elaine. There are so many memories. The epic motor home trip we took to Florida, hearing the sad news at Mt. Rushmore from the ranger, before cell phones, of what happened to your son(s). It was tragic and sad. I assume you still have that trophy that was taken out of the grave against Indian tradition and given to you.
The trip!! I had never heard the expression, "Well, guy" or "but guy" and I'm like who is this guy fellow? It was an expression of frustration mixed in with teenage brain cells. I deny any kissing cousin going on.
Or the time we were at a dump station and my dad Burton didn't know it was full. You guessed it, when the valve opened up, the waste went all over my dad! Gary was there in shock and hesitated to laugh, when Burton looked at him and said his famous line, "If I hadn't had my mouth open, it would've hit me in the face." Thus the term the sh!tter's full!
Elaine was always so kind and laughed and cried I'm sure at our shenanigans.
