Elaine Nelson Sorensen 92, returned to her Heavenly Father on March 16, 2023. Elaine was born on March 22, 1930, to Christian Vinson and Thelma Bostrom Nelson in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Elaine spent her early years growing up in Sugarhouse and in Washington State. Her family returned to Sugar House where she graduated from South High School. While attending South High, she met Arlin Sorensen. Their first date was at Laura Larsen’s Ice Cream Shop where she worked. Shortly after their first date, Arlin joined the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska. A year later he returned on furlough and came to her house with an engagement ring asking for her hand in marriage. They were married on October 15, 1948, and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

Elaine and Arlin were blessed with the opportunity to adopt 3 wonderful children, Richard Bruce, Teresa Lynn, and Scott Douglas Sorensen. While serving in the Air Force, they had the opportunity to live in many different places around the world, including being stationed in Germany, France, and several bases in the United States. After retirement, they returned to Salt Lake City and settled in the Rose Park area.
Elaine loved to travel, which she did extensively during her 6 years in Europe with her family. She had a beautiful love for animals and had many pets, including many strays around the Salt Lake Valley.

Arlin passed away at the age of 58 in 1987. Two years later she married Major “Mac” McBeth, and they enjoyed their time traveling together in their motor home all along the West Coast. Mac passed away in 2000. In 2008 she married True Hatch who also passed away. Elaine was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served in a variety of callings such as Relief Society President, Primary Presidency Counselor and Librarian.

Elaine is survived by her brother Roger Nelson. Her children, Richard (Dixie) Sorensen, Teresa “Traci” Hill, and Scott (Carrie) Sorensen. Her 7 grandchildren, Suzanne Bridge, Michelle Hill, Melanie (Jason) Rasmussen, Christopher Sorensen, James Hill, Kimberly (Andrew) Young, Bradley (Stephanie) Sorensen and 10 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lois Gardner, her 3 husbands, and 2 grandchildren Scotty & Alexander Sorensen.
