Obituary

Kay Duvall devoted her life to her family. Her more than 50-year marriage to the love of her life was a testament to loyalty, patience, and deep commitment. She was a proud mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister. Kay was a strong independent woman who was fiercely protective of those she loved.

Kay was born on June 7, 1949 to Margaret Patterson and Leonard Leake in Salt Lake City, Utah. She died peacefully with family after a long illness on June 2, 2026 in Sandy, Utah. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Steve. She is survived by children Kristin (Justin) and Bryan (Cheyanne), 4 grandchildren, her brother Fred, and extended family members.

Kay attended the University of Utah where she earned her degree in Fashion Merchandising. While attending college, she spent summers in Jackson, Wyoming where she met Steve and continued to date him for several summers. They married in Bountiful, Utah and raised their kids in Colorado and Utah. Kay loved being a grandma and lit up every time she saw her grandkids. She enjoyed trips to Lake Powell, Jackson, and Yellowstone with family and friends. She also enjoyed attending car shows with Steve and spending time with her PEO sisters.

Kay was the embodiment of caring and selflessness, always putting her children's needs before her own with unwavering love and endless compassion. Her devotion to her children, combined with her charismatic spirit, inspired everyone around her and created a home filled with warmth, strength, and hope. She always tackled any problem with a determined attitude and a positive outlook, never giving up until she got it done. Despite numerous health challenges, Kay remained strong and resilient to the end.

A celebration of life will be held on July 18, 2026 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S in Sandy. Service will begin in the chapel at 11 am with a reception noon-2 pm. Graveside services for both Kay and Steve will be at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the PEO Foundation.
