Elliot Alexander Benson

2007 ~ 2022

Obituary Photo for Elliot Alexander Benson < >

Elliot Alexander Benson was born on November 17, 2007 in Pullman, Washington to his parents Regan and Aaron Benson. Shortly afterward, he moved with his family to Lubbock, Texas where he enjoyed going to the park with friends and loved riding his bike as fast as possible.

In 2014, at almost seven years old, Elliot moved closer to extended family in Salt Lake City, Utah. As Elliot grew into himself he found he enjoyed being outside, skiing, and playing and planning Dungeons and Dragons with his friends. He played soccer and dove on the diving team at full speed and with full zeal. Elliot was kind and joyful. The impact he had on those around him is immeasurable. His laugh was recognizable from across the room and he was known for wearing a T-shirt and shorts, even in the freezing cold. He enjoyed playing the saxophone in his school’s jazz band and was an expert with little kids. He was always the first to make them laugh. He was passionate, enjoyed making friends, teaching others, and, when asked what his favorite subject to study was, Elliot enthusiastically replied: “Star Wars”. Elliot was a light. His comforting energy could be felt no matter what you needed, whether that be a laugh or a good cry.

Elliot departed from this life on April 4, 2022. His loss is felt by many, but his love and light are not dimmed. He is survived by his parents, Regan and Aaron Benson, his brother Noah (16), his sisters, Alba (11), and Millie (7), his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, who all love him dearly.

To greet the family, visitation will be held on Saturday, April 9th, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1930 S 2100 E, from 9:30-10:45 with a funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. The graveside interment will follow directly after the funeral service at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E 1300 S. SLC UT. For those who wish to watch the service via Zoom, you may do so with the following link:

My heart is heavy with the news about Elliot. His smile will always be in my mind. His twinkling eyes were so welcome to see when he mastered a new piano piece and the satisfaction and sigh that came with it. Thank you, Elliot, for the time I had being your piano teacher!

elliot was a such a good friend. he was funny, he was smart, and he cared. im gonna miss him so much. i wish he were here today, wish he could help me with my math homework, make bad jokes, and just be here with all of us. i know how hard his battle with mental health was, i remember seeing the scars on his arms and wishing i could do more to help. my condolences go out to his family, his brother and sisters, and his parents, and to his clostest friends. im so sorry we couldnt do more for him. elliot was one of the funniest people ive met in a while, and ill miss him, but i hope that we can all heal together, even if slowly. thank you.

What a great kid, Elliot will be missed by so many. I loved his drive and determination to help everyone be better. As his soccer coach it was a pleasure to have known Elliot and be part of those really happy moments. His willingness to do his best and play as hard as possible to support his team was something special. My prayers are with you all.

- Coach Scott Nichols

I knew him from jazz band last year. He was a great addition to the group and was always fun to be around.

Aaron,
I remember you as a sweet, young boy in Willow Creek. It saddens me to hear of your loss. We loved your parents and your whole wonderful family. Your sadness is mine also.
I lost my husband Richard 8 months ago and I want to tell you that the Savior does comfort those who mourn. He seems to replace a great deal of the sadness with thankfulness that we had them in our lives. I pray that you will be able to dwell on the happy times and memories that you shared with Elliot. I am praying for you and your wife and family.

Elliot was the first friend I made in math class. He was smart, kind, and so so caring. I'm so heartbroken that he felt the need to go this far. I send my condolences to his family, and everyone close to him. I'm so sorry, and I wish I could've done more. He will be missed by so many, and he was and still is loved by lots. <3

Dear Benson family and friends,
I did not know Elliot beyond a parent of his soccer team-mate Asher. He was an incredible athlete and was extremely psyched when playing. I recall several games where the other team was short-handed with Elliot switching and he lit up and carried whatever team he was one. He will be dearly missed. May we all celebrate all elements of his life.

My heart and prayers go out to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Eli

Dear Benson Family,

It’s hard to find the words.

I hope you know of and feel the love, support, and condolences of the community and your friends and family at this time.

I knew Elliot as a soccer teammate to my son JT, and his spirit, light, and presence will be dearly remembered and missed by his teammates, their parents, and his coaches.

Elliot’s impact and light on all those around him were important and are felt and live on.

Again, please know that there are many mourning with you, and I hope your family feels the genuine good will and support of your neighbors and friends.

I wish so badly that I could’ve gotten to be closer with Elliot. I only talked to him occasionally, but when I did he made me smile. Being able to play Dungeons and Dragons with him was so much fun. Elliot was an amazing person and a wonder to be around. He will be missed greatly.

- Q Smith

I would have loved to be able to know him better because he really was a such a kind person and always made others feel welcome and loved. He was funny and overall just an amazing person. He performed amazing and humorous plays in theater class that would me and others laugh. He will be missed and I send my love to anyone who is deeply missing him. I hope you all can stay strong through this tough time. <3

Dear Benson Family,
Elliot and I were friends in MELP and band. I wanted to share some of my favorites moments with him that happened in school.
4. During the pandemic in zoom theater class together, we had a group project and Elliot was thrilled we wrote our scene around Star Wars. I was so happy to have someone to talk about the Mandalorian with. We shared so many laughs and he smiled so much during that assignment.
3. In language arts class, we sat next to each other and when I asked how he was doing he said “I’m doing well, how are you?” When I responded “I’m great!” he got mad at me for not using proper grammar and we laughed together.
2. I was lucky to be in band with him, he looked so happy playing the saxophone and he was so talented.
1. Our table group loved to have banter with him about Greek mythology. We would say Hercules because he would always correct us and say it’s Heracles! We would giggle because he was so set in his ways, we had so much fun chatting.
I’m going to miss him and his wit. He was lucky to have such a great family.
Sincerely,

Regan, Aaron and family,
Our hearts are just aching hearing about the loss of Elliot.
You truly raised a wonderful young man. He was always so diligent about helping get Jacob, Sammi and Maddie out of the house and off to school along with his sister's morning after morning and he did it with a smile.
When it was time for Hilary and Sam to move, Elliot was right there helping out working much harder than most everyone else and again with a smile on his face.
Please know that we love him and we love you guys even though we don't know you well.
We have felt his loving spirit very strongly this week.
We know he has a loving place with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
