Elwyn Langley Bergstrom

Elwyn Langley Bergstrom, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Feb 3, 2024 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 19, 1922, the son of Oscar Frithiof Bergstrom and Eva Teresia Lundborg. He attended Granite High School in Salt Lake City. He married Dawna Jeanne Taylor on March 9, 1944 in Olympia, WA. They shared a wonderful life of 59 and a half years while raising a family and traveling with the Good Sam Club "Wasatch Wagons" Chapter.

Elwyn served in WWII as a field medic after attending Medical Technical School at O'Reilly General Hospital. He was assigned to the 14th Field Artillery Battalion in the European Theater, participated in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central European Battle Campaigns, received 4 bronze Campaign Stars, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Bronze Star Medal.

After the war, Elwyn and Dawna settled in SLC and started a family, Elwyn spent five years working his way up to Superintendent of Transportation at National City Lines Bus Corp. Looking for advancement he accepted a position at Pacific Metals Company, he worked in sales and eventually he took a job at Industrial Supply Co. where he spent the remainder of his career. He enjoyed traveling and called this one of the best decisions in his career, he spent 33 years with Industrial Supply Co.. Elwyn helped the company grow with his natural ability towards sales, he had a life-long curiosity for the industry that kept him engaged to serve the clients.

Elwyn was a talented woodworker. Throughout his life he was always generous with woodworking projects and sharing his expertise with others. He would focus on creating batches of projects, each time trying to improve his process, most items went to friends and family as gifts.

He was an active member of the Rose Park Lions Club since joining in 1996. Over the years, he and the Lions brought the community together by serving breakfast on Memorial Day at Riverside Park in Rose Park. He was particularly proud of his time serving as an organizer for the International Peace Poster Contest, promoting youths' vision of peace through art. Elwyn made many friendships during his time with the Rose Park Lions and spoke of them often.

He is survived by his daughter Jody Bergstrom, grandsons, William (Tanya), Loveland, CO; John, Salt Lake City; Matthew (Heather), Boise, ID; Mark (Kara), Bountiful; and Ryan (Sara), West Jordan; nieces and nephews and his great grandchildren that deeply loved him.

Elwyn was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Dawna, his son Gary, and his brothers Leonard, Glenn, Keith and his furry best friend Kristy.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E South Temple, Salt Lake City. Friends may call prior to services from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. A recording of the service will be available to watch online through Zoom using the "Watch Service" button above.
