Emma Lou Jowers

1933 ~ 2022

Our cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Emma Lou Hansen Jowers, passed away on March 23, 2022 at St. Mark's Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Emma Lou was born on September 18, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the daughter of Lincoln and Della (Sorensen) Hansen, being blessed with wonderful parents and a happy childhood with loving siblings (Mac and Beth Ann).

Emma Lou felt blessed with pioneer ancestors who had great faith and courage and made it possible for her to be born in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which was central to her life. She shared her pioneer ancestor stories with her children and grandchildren. Emma Lou joyfully served as called in the auxiliaries of the Church. She also served multiple times as Ward Relief Society President and in Stake Relief Society presidencies.

Emma Lou graduated from Utah State University where she enjoyed many activities and served as president of Chi Omega. She enjoyed working in Washington, D.C. for four years, one year with the Marriott Corporation and three years as secretary to Congressman Henry Aldous Dixon, who had also been her university president. While there, Emma Lou served a stake mission in Washington and Virginia. Her love and stories of our nation's capital have influenced many of her children and grandchildren in their educational pursuits and vocations.

Emma Lou married Frank Garrett Jowers on December 19.1963, in the Salt Lake Temple, and they had a wonderful life together. Frank did so much for her and their family members. Emma Lou enjoyed traveling, first with her parents, and then
with Frank and their children and grandchildren. Emma Lou and Frank had many special trips together. She visited 50 countries around the world, and all 50 states in the United States, a country she loved.

She also leaves behind a wonderful and empowering legacy of great faith in Christ, serving not only in her callings, but offering Christlike service to people around her. She genuinely loved and was interested in everyone she met. She loved being a mother
and was completely devoted to her family. She was constantly writing down notes about what every child, grandchild and great-grandchild was doing and where they were living. Even in her final hours, she was focused on celebrating upcoming birthdays and events of the people she loved so much.

Emma Lou's greatest love was for her husband and family. Emma Lou is survived by her husband, Frank, and their children: Kristine, Kirk (Kristen), and Kevin (Angie); their
grandchildren: Holly, Cody (Heather), Misty (Christian), Kaitie (Ben), Luke (Ellen), Jackson, Lucy, Emma, Maya, Aaron, Isaac, Hyrum, and Anya; and their great-grandchildren: Kim, Kami, Jordan, Carter, and Claire.

Emma Lou is preceded in death by their dear daughter, Karyn (with whom she is finally reunited), and her parents and siblings. Emma Lou was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3510 South 3640 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. There will be a viewing on Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, UT and from 10:00 to 10:45 am on Saturday at the church. I was so sorry to hear about Emma Lou. Our family loved the Jowers family.
Our boys played ward basketball together.
The Jowers were wonderful neighbors and friends. She will be missed! I'll always remember her cheering on her boys at all the games. She was their biggest fan!

Dear Frank and family, I am so saddened to read of the passing of your sweet Emma Lou. I know how much she will be missed and how hard it is to lose your mate and continue on with life having the void her going leaves in your hearts. You are in my thoughts and prayers as you deal with her loss. I am spending this spring in St George so was unable to attend the services but am sure it was beautiful, May the Lord bless you all as you make your adjustments in this life without her. So wonderful to know there will be a great reunion in the future.
