Erika Helga Duncan, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, wife, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away at the age of 91 on May 30, 2023, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her own home. Erika was born on June 9, 1931, in Berlin, Germany, to Karl and Frieda Kupczik..

Growing up in Germany during World War II, she faced many hardships, including the heartbreaking loss of her only brother, Walter, in a concentration camp. Despite these challenges, Erika persevered and went on to attend a beauty college in Berlin, where she honed her skills in fashion design and modeling. For a time, she graced the runway as a fashion model, until fate intervened and she met the love of her life,
Albert Wesley Duncan, at a bowling alley in Berlin. Albert never believed in fortune telling; that is until a fortune teller told him he’d meet the love of his life overseas. The fortune teller went on to tell him he’d lose her only to find her again. The moment he laid eyes on her he then believed.

Their love story led them to marry on March 3, 1956, in Berlin, and together they embraced the joys and responsibilities of raising three beautiful children: Pamela, born on June 25, 1956, and twins Shannon and Chad, born on June 11, 1962.

For over 30 years, Erika dedicated herself to a successful career at ZCMI, where she shone as a leader and provided exceptional customer service. She formed deep and lasting bonds with her coworkers, who became cherished friends throughout her life. Erika had a strong spirit and a profound love for life. In her final days, she expressed to her son Chad that she didn't want to leave this beautiful place. Her love for her family and friends was boundless, evident in her warm embraces, affectionate kisses, and heartfelt goodbyes as she waved from her porch. Her red hair, radiant smile, and keen eye for beauty were defining features that endeared her to all she encountered. Throughout her life's journey, Erika left an indelible mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to cross her path.

The void left by Erika's passing is immeasurable and will never be filled. Her memory will be cherished by her son Chad Duncan (Maria Obdulia Rodriguez Duncan). She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Leslie Grayson (Gary Grayson), Hollie Jones (Justin Jones),
Zachery Richmond (Sarah Richmond), Bronson Anderson, Brookque DeCroo (Jason DeCroo), Brandon Duncan (Michelle Duncan), Brysen Duncan, Maximillion Duncan, and Leonardo Duncan. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a multitude of friends. Erika was preceded in death by her parents, brother Walter Kupczik, husband Albert, and daughters Pamela Richmond and Shannon Duncan.

Funeral services honoring Erika's remarkable life will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, located at 1950 East Dimple Dell Road, Sandy. The service will commence at 3:00 PM, preceded by a viewing from 1:30 to 2:45 PM. Following the service, a graveside ceremony will take place at Sunset Larkin Gardens.
