1938 ~ 2025
Ernest Wesley Chidester passed away at his home in Idaho Falls after an illness.
He was born in Salt Lake City on November 8, 1938, to Wesley Lysle and Isabella Felicity Bertolina Chidester. Eight years later, his brother Jerry James completed their family. Growing up, they called Ernie “Bud”, and when Ernie married RaNae Morgan in April 1960, Jerry cried, worried he would never see his Bud again.
Ernie and RaNae were blessed with 2 daughters: Jill born August 11, 1961 & Holly born September 26, 1963
Ernie and RaNae later divorced.
Ernie worked for the State of Utah in the data processing department and also spent time with Utah Highways. He was instrumental in the design of I-15 through the Salt Lake Valley. He took great pride in his work and the lasting impact it had on his community.
Outside of work, Ernie loved to golf and fish, coached football, and was always up for an adventure. He had a big heart and found joy in bringing happiness to others. He joked with everyone he met and had a way of making every day a little brighter.
He is survived by and will be missed by his daughters, Jill Burton (Brian) & Holly Kirby (Doug), 9 grandchildren & 14 great grandchildren, his brother Jerry and nieces & nephews.
Ernie is preceded in death by his parents Wesley & Isabella, and a sister in law Karen Chidester.
Graveside services will be December 6, 2025 at 10:30 am at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy Utah.
