Doyle Lynn Olson Sr.

1924 ~ 2016

Doyle Lynn Olson, son of Harry John and Mary Camilla Mathews Olson, passed away peacefully in the afternoon of June 7, 2016. Doyle was born February 8, 1924 in Ogden, Utah. His family moved to Salt Lake, where he grew up and made his home. He was a gifted artist, and in school he enjoyed participating in and winning awards in the West High School ROTC. When the call came to defend his country, Doyle joined the Navy as an officer and became a pilot during WWII. He loved flying and serving in the military. He dearly loved his country and was a patriot through and through. Doyle attended the University of Utah, where he met his sweetheart, Joy Green. He graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree on June 13, 1950 and they were married on November 10, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Doyle made his profession as a cartographer, where he enjoyed traveling and mapping much of the southwestern United States' oil fields. Doyle and Joy had five children, 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Their grandchildren were the focus of their lives and they always enjoyed sharing their sporting events and special activities.

Doyle was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Green and daughter, Susan Olson Goodwin. He is survived by three sons, Doyle Lynn Jr. "Duff" (Debbie), David Paul (Wendy) and Michael Green Olson (Diana); daughter, Peggy Olson Hodgdon (Kenneth); son-in-law, Ray Goodwin (Valerie).

Graveside services will be held Monday, June 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday, from 6-8 PM at the same location.
