Obituary

Myrtle Evelyn Allred Covington, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully May 19, 2026, in Spanish Fork, Utah, following a three-week decline. In her last few days she was surrounded by family and loved ones lending their support as she graduated from this life. She was 86.

Evelyn was born January 10, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Rulon Clark Allred and Ruth Barlow, the second of thirteen children. At the age of 8 she suffered a life-threatening illness which impacted her the rest of her life. Fortunately for us, her life was spared at that time. She married Dean Wayne Covington on June 25, 1958, and together they had thirteen children of their own. They lived for many years in Magna, Utah, until Wayne passed away. Evelyn subsequently lived in multiple other places in Utah before moving to Mount Pleasant in her later years. She loved animals and growing things. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting hats, and doing puzzles and crosswords. She loved sharing treats and crafts with her grandchildren and anyone else who came to visit. Evelyn graciously opened her home and heart to many when they were in need.

Evelyn is now reunited with her Savior, her husband Wayne, her parents, her grandsons Jeffrey and Ammon Matthews, and many other loved ones who have gone on before her. She is survived by her 13 children: Kathleen Covington, Dwayne (Heather) Covington, Janice (Elson) Baker, Lynn (Bonnie) Covington, Alden (Joanna, Maureen) Covington, Cristine (Dennis) Matthews, Mark (Michelle) Covington, Daniel Covington, Jason (Caroline) Covington, Joshua Covington, Allia (Joel) Jackson, Roseanna Olsen, and Laura Covington; 75 living grandchildren; and 75 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind multiple siblings, extended family, and others whom she loved dearly.

Services will be held at Larkin Mortuary, 3688 W. 12600 S., Riverton, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday, May 31, from 4:30 to 7:00 pm. The funeral will be held Monday, June 1, at 11:00 am, with a viewing prior from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Interment will be at Taylorsville Cemetery, 4575 S. Redwood Rd., Taylorsville, Utah.

Sincere thanks to Rachel and Leesa and the staff at Good Life Senior Living in Mount Pleasant, where Mom lived for the last 12 years, and to the wonderful medical staff at Spanish Fork Hospital. Both took care of Mom with respect and love. Much appreciation to the staff at Larkin Mortuary for their kind and caring services.

Mom will be greatly missed, but we look forward to meeting her again. Until then she will continue to watch over and help us, just as she always has.

I first met Sister Evelyn when I was 13. She has always been very kind and loving. She welcomed me into her home, and I cherish my relationship with many of her children. She was the first adult I ever knew to let her children and their guest eat chocolate cake for breakfast ❣️ All my love and prayers to her beautiful family.
