Beth Osguthorpe Milne

1923 ~ 2018

Beth was born of goodly parents, George Osmond and Elizabeth (Bessie) Midgley Osguthorpe, on July 11, 1923, in Blackfoot, ID. The family, with Beth being the youngest of four children, left their farm and returned to East Mill Creek when her father, a young man of 35, was diagnosed with cancer, dying on April 26, 1925. This left her beloved mother at age 32 awaiting the birth of their fifth child. Beth spent her youth with siblings George, Wesley, Ramola, and baby Mary living in the home of their maternal grandparents, Thomas James and Elizabeth Coulam Midgley, until a home was built for them next door. She was taught at a young age the importance of paying a full tithe and the family was truly blessed.

She loved her years at Granite High School where she graduated in May 1941. Beth loved to sing and take part in choirs, road shows and operettas. She, with her two sisters and three friends, formed a sextet and performed at East Mill Creek Ward and many other venues throughout the valley. Beth and Mary spent summers working at the family bee farm extracting delicious honey for sale and working for ward families.

Beth married Lindsay Reuben Milne and moved to California where he was employed by Lockheed Aircraft and welcomed their first child Linda Dawn. They returned to Salt Lake where he became employed at Hill Air Force Base. Their son Brent was born in Salt Lake and Randall in Murray City. In 1948 the young family moved into their newly constructed home in the Canyon Rim area. They were sealed with their three children in the Salt Lake Temple in 1951. Two more sons, Paul and Bryan, completed their family.

As district and regional manager secretary for UARCO Business Forms, she worked alongside 15 super salesmen and completed 25 years of service.

Beth, with her three siblings, Wesley, Ramola and Mary cared for their aging mother for 29 months before her passing at age 94.

She was faithful in all her callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in Sunday School, Primary, Relief Society and as ward librarian for ten years. She loved her calling as a visiting teacher with the same partner for 40 years in the Rosecrest 2nd Ward.

Following a divorce in 2001 she chose to live her single life in St. George, UT. Her new friends drew close to her and she became active in the Morningside 2nd Ward where she was involved in humanitarian efforts creating ABC Picture Books for children and was a member of the Fort Pearce Camp of the DUP. She loved St. George and the very special friends she made during her 12 years there.

Returning to Salt Lake on her 90th birthday to be closer to family, she settled into independent living at the Highland Cove Senior Living Community and later as a resident of their assisted living program. Beth became an active member of the Winder 15th Branch and the DUP Highlander Camp. She again formed dear friendships and loved her four years there. She passed away at age 94 on February 27, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings George, Wesley (Iva), Mary (Joel) Garrett, and twin granddaughter Shannan Milne. She is survived by her five children, Linda, Brent (Diane), Randall, Paul, Bryan and a truly wonderful sister, Ramola Bengtzen. She leaves five grandchildren, Sydney, Wade (Alyssa), Ryan (Robyn), Bryce, and Adam Milne, along with nine great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sophie, Benjamin, Jackson, Zoe, Beckett, Oliver, Oskar, and Ruby Milne.
