Douglas Stillman Wagstaff

1926 ~ 2018

Douglas Stillman Wagstaff, 91, passed away of natural causes on March 14, 2018. Born, July 17, 1926. Douglas was the 8th child of Henry Albert Wagstaff and Susanna Ethel Stillman Wagstaff. His parents were of early Utah pioneer families. The Stillmans' settled in the Millcreek area and the Wagstaffs' in Holladay.

Douglas was educated in the Salt Lake City Schools, graduated from South High School, and briefly attended the University of Utah. He joined the Army Air Corps and was called to active duty in January 1945 as an aerial flight engineer. He served in both World War II and the Korean conflict.

He was sealed to his eternal companion, Bonnie Jean Liedtke, on June 27, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised their three children in the Salt Lake City area. Douglas was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as bishop of the Crescent 2nd Ward in Sandy, as welfare regional agent, and with his wife, as church-service missionaries in the Provo MTC.

He was very enterprising in his life, working for Sears, Doug's Paint and Decorating, Allstate Insurance Company, Highway Trailer Park Corp, and Pembroke. He created Do-it-Dad, a furniture and hardware store. He was the manager for the RC Willey store in Murray, and for Economy Builders. In addition he designed and built two homes and maintained several apartments.

Douglas is survived by his daughter Debra Sue Taylor (George Terry); sons Douglas Bradley Wagstaff (Rosalie), and Craig L Wagstaff (Patti); 14 grandchildren and 17great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his siblings Mary Leona Huckvale, Stillman Albert "Stilly" Wagstaff, Elizabeth "Beth" Goodfellow, Greta Mead, Earl Stillman Wagstaff, Thelma Haslam, Lavaun (Bonnie) Hall; and his younger sister Maurine "Molly" Kilpack.

Viewings will be held on Friday, March 16th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, March 17th from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Funeral service to follow at 10:30 a.m. All at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy. Interment will be in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.

He was beloved by many friends and family who mourn his loss.
