Don Raymond Kane

1915 ~ 2016

Don Raymond Kane passed away September 3, 2016. He was born June 15, 1915 in Salina, Utah and was the second of five children born to James and Abbie Jane Rasmussen Kane. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Kimble (Gerlean), Lynn (Betty), Geneive (Ted) and Glen.

Dad grew up living part-time on the family farm that was located between Aurora and Vermillion and in a home next to his grandparents in Salina, Utah. He was the president of the senior class as well as the quarterback of the football team. Dad enlisted in the US Navy after he graduated from high school and served from 1934 to 1938. He attended Snow College and then served in the Army Air Force (in the South Pacific) from January 1942 to December 1945.

Dad met Vervene Johnson at church in California in 1942 and they were married in June 1946 in the Logan Temple. Dad is survived by their daughters: Dr. Susan Kane and Patricia Kane Christensen. He is also survived by grandchildren: Michael Ray Christensen (Rachel), Sarah Ann Christensen Jenkins (Wes), and Daniel James Christensen.

Dad was always very responsible and hard-working, regardless of the task. He worked for the United States Post Office until retirement. He was chosen (with two other carriers) to introduce the five-digit zip code for the Post Office in 1963. Dad was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served responsibly as ward and stake clerk along with other callings.

Dad became an avid golfer in retirement. He enjoyed playing at many different golf courses throughout the state and was thrilled when he once got a hole-in-one.

Dad talked often about all the amazing changes he had seen in 101 years and joked that the secret to his longevity was that no one on the other side wanted him. We knew that wasn't true and though difficult for us, we are content that he is with Mom and other loved ones.

Services will be held on September 9, 2016 at the Foothill 3rd Ward (1930 South 2100 East) at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may call an hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Larkin Mortuary.

We want to thank the staff of the VA hospital for their kindness and professionalism.
