Jared DeRoyce Campbell

1938 ~ 2019

Jared DeRoyce Campbell, our beloved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, and friend passed through the veil Sunday, May 26, 2019. He was greeted by his son, Peter; his parents, Edward, Gertrude, Clara; brothers and sisters, Denny, Travis, Janice, Beverly, Colene, Lonny, and countless other loved ones who preceded him in death.

He was born on June 15, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Edward and Gertrude Kofoed Campbell. He married his eternal sweetheart, Barbara Rae Nelson, on September 12, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. They settled and established their home in Sandy, Utah, where they raised five beautiful children.

Dad grew up in a large family, and at an early age learned the value of hard work and serving those in need. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully as Bishop and High Councilman, which were among the various callings he held. With mom by his side, they served two Inner City Service Missions. He had a great love for and testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel. He lived his life in a way that reflected what he believed---Love of God, family, and country.

He was a man of many talents and interests. In his early years, you found him playing basketball, fishing, hunting, river rafting, camping, and working with his kids on a handful of service projects. Music has always been an important part of his life. He played the standup bass in a Jazz band and loved listening to Jazz music. Our home was always filled with music. He used his talents and skills to bless lives and found many opportunities for service in his hometown of Sandy, and surrounding areas.

He worked for the Air Force Air National Guard for 42 years, retiring in 1998 as a Senior Master Sergeant. While serving in the Air National Guard, he received many ribbons, medals and awards; among them the Governor's Award and the Minute Man Award.

A learned man was dad, his later years brought discovery of the internet and YouTube with its many tutorials. Ham Radio was among his favorites, to enhance his DIY (tinkering) skills allowing his ever curious mind to expand. You would often find him on his Ham Radio call sign "Chicken Shack" looking to connect with others in the universe.

"By making anything and everything just a little bit bigger and extravagant than its original mundane state", that is our amazing dad!
