Daryl Lynn Ranson

1944 ~ 2016

Daryl Lynn Ranson, 72, of Sandy, Utah passed away at his home on his birthday, December 25, 2016. He did not suffer, just simply was very tired and went to sleep. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah to William and Ruth Ranson, brother Don (Karen) Ranson and Sister Elaine (Wes) Ison. On August 2, 1969, he married the love of his life, Sharon (Sherri) Janisch. Together they raised three wonderful children, Dianne Salt of Bountiful, Robyn (Matt) VanWagenen of Saratoga Springs and Randy Ranson of Heber (Deceased).

Daryl graduated from South High School prior to joining the Navy and was a naval veteran having served in the Vietnam War. He was very active in the Corvette Club of Utah and served as president for 4 years. He had been 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and was part of the Gourmet Club for 25 years. He loved to travel, Mexico being one of his absolute favorite destinations and house boating on Lake Powell with his Corvette Club friends and loved going on road-trips . He absolutely loved gardening and took a great amount of pride in having an impeccable yard. He could grow some wicked tomatoes and canna lilies and won the Sandy City Beautification Award for his yard one year. He has a 50+ foot pine tree in the yard and all the neighbors wait for the holiday to see his Christmas Star. His radio was only tuned to the oldies and Daryl loved to go to the 50\s dances at Blessed Sacrament. He was into coin collecting and had quite a collection.

Daryl was loved by all who knew him for his warmth and wit, his crazy shenanigans and for being the ultimate jokester. and the life of the party. He was well known for his jovial rendition of Santa Claus each Christmas for the kids. He was asked to preform at various birthday celebrations dressed as a woman, the belly dancer was his best. Everyone knew him by his tattoo of Mickey Rat.

Daryl is survived by his wife, Sharon and two daughters, Robyn and Dianne; grandchildren: Kinzie, Kayden, Maddie, Gracie, Brittney, Marty, Molly, Randi Lynn and Kiristin; and great-grandchildren; Jackson and Logan, Peyton and Grayson. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth, and by his son, Randy. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, the team at the IMC Dialysis Center and Home Health services for the years of caring service they provided to Daryl.

All are invited to join the family to give condolences at Larkin Sunset Gardens, located 1950 East Dimple Dell Road at 6:00 PM on Tuesday January 3, 2017 and stay for the rosary which will begin at 6:30 and at 7:00 we will have an Open-Mic Celebration of Life. Please bring stories to share. Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in Draper, UT January 4, 2017 11:00, innichment to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mausoleum. Then back to the church for a reception and lite lunch in Meeting room A.

Daryl loved cats so in lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Kitty City at the Murray Humane Society where a donation page has been set up.
