Jess Morgan Walker

1934 ~ 2018

Jess Morgan Walker, 84, of Orem, Utah, peacefully passed away on August 17, 2018 in Daybreak, Utah surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 2, 1934, to Evan Moroni Walker and Norma Morgan Walker. He was raised in Beaver, Utah.

Jess served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Swiss-Austrian Mission. He received a Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the University of Utah, and a PhD from Michigan State University.

He was a teacher and counselor at Highland High School, and then a Professor of Education at Western Michigan University and Brigham Young University.

After his mission, he met his eternal sweetheart, Mary Jane Newsome. They married in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 7, 1957. He loved teaching, collecting antiques, gardening, and music.

Jess was a lifelong, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; and among other callings, he served as a Bishop of a Young Single Adult Ward at the age of 74.

Jess is survived by his wife of 61 years, and their five children, Janae (Randy) Bernhard, Jeffrey (Liz), Jory, Jenna (Joel) Weisman, and James (Sheli), as well as 21 grandchildren and 21 great grand-children.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Lakeview 6th Ward Meetinghouse, 2168 South 140 West, Orem, Utah at 11 a.m., with a viewing that day from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Interment that same day, at Larkin Sunset Garden, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy, Utah.
