Lois Matson Budzynski

1920 ~ 2015

Lois was born in Mapleton, Utah to Afton Monroe and Flora Stone Matson. She met her husband, Vincent George Budzynski , while working in Logan, Utah where she lived with her sister, Ella. It was wartime and Vince was stationed there with the Air Corps. They married nine months later. After the war ended, they moved to Vince's home in Detroit, Michigan. Lois had continued her education after high school at the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City where she lived in the famous Beehive House. She was ambitious and often would return to her parent's home in Aberdeen, Idaho to help them with the family business before moving to Logan where she worked as a bookkeeper.

In Detroit, she focused on raising her family, a loving and devoted mother, along with sharing many interests with her husband in square dancing, bowling, scouting and traveling. She was also a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she was admired for her dedicated service in many leadership positions and Christ-like love of those she served. Her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ was unwavering. Through the Church, she found a love for genealogy and became known for her expertise in Polish ancestral research. Upon retirement, she and Vince moved to the country in Dryden, Michigan where they lived for 10 years before Vince passed away. After 48 years in Michigan, Lois decided to return to the Salt Lake City area and her beloved mountains where she served a Family History Mission for the Church before living out the rest of her life there in peace and tranquility, looking forward to frequent visits by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren until her peaceful passing.

Lois is survived by her five children, Richard David of Westland, Michigan, Barbara Joanne Hales (Lloyd) of El Paso, Texas, Karen Jean Foltz of Houston Texas, Donald James (Stacey) of Walled Lake, Michigan, and Douglas John (Lisa) of Bonney Lake, Washington; nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and sisters Elaine Reschke and Gayle Cole of Logan. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vincent, and sisters, Ella Lindsay and Nora Gahley.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 10th from 6:30-8:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 11th at 11:00 AM with a visitation from 10:00-10:45 am prior and a graveside service at the Salem City Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
