  • Rick Sperry, 77 our beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away July 31, 2021.

Born June 5, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Floyd Carter Sperry and Renee Larson. Married Laural Kendrick, June 12, 1972, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rick graduated Highland High and went on to Weber State. He began his career with South Salt Lake Police Department then moved on to the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office. He was a member of the Narcotics Unit during the 1970’s, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and worked the last few years with the Juvenile Division, where he retired toward the end of the 1980’s. He went on to work another career with Wyoming Juvenile Probation where he helped many troubled kids. He retired at 71 years old. His work with young people was heavily focused on helping kids transition from abusive family situations to healthier homes. He also helped establish child protection laws. When he was hospitalized some of his former clients came to introduce him to their children. We learned the generational impact of the work he had done quietly for many years. We really never knew what he did because he had to protect the kids and their identities.

Rick is survived by his wife, Laural, children Derek and Megan, David, Michael and Alfredo, Andi and Ryan, Shelbi, nine grandchildren, and brother Steve and Susan.

The family would like to thank his caregivers, Rocky Mt. Home Health, Nursing Staff of Huntsman Cancer Center and U of U Hospital.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 12 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery with a visitation from 10:00 to 11:45 am, inside Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 So.), Sandy, Utah.
