Georgiana B. Day (82 yrs.), beloved wife, mother, grandma, and friend reunited with her parents and brother, on November 11, 2023. Georgiana passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on both sides of the veil. Those who knew her have been indelibly impacted by her unconditional love, service, and sacrifice.

Georgiana was born in Tooele, Utah, on May 15, 1941, to Robert Thomas and Lydia Black. She was the older of two children and spent her early years in Salt Lake. Her love and testimony of the Savior developed early on. She would go to church each week by herself and made the decision to marry in the temple and to have a family that would worship together.

Georgiana greatly valued education. After graduating from Granite High School in 1959, where she was involved in the chamber choir and the pep squad, she earned her first degree – a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Utah in 1963. She then continued to work in the medical field for more than a decade serving patients, teaching, and inspiring the next generation of nurses.

The summer following her graduation from nursing school, Georgiana was set up on a blind date – a blind date who would later become her best friend and husband of 58 years and with whom she would share five children and fifteen grandchildren.

Georgiana always had a special place in her heart for President David O. McKay. When John and Georgiana were married, her father was not able to attend the ceremony in the Salt Lake Temple. The couple submitted a letter of request that was granted to have both a civil ceremony and then later the same day have their marriage solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. Georgiana used to joke about how married they were with the double ceremonies.

Following their marriage Georgiana and John moved to Brighton (a suburb of Boston) to pursue advanced degrees – John at MIT for a Doctorate in Chemical Engineering and Georgiana at Boston College for a Master in Cardiovascular Nursing. While nine months pregnant with their first child, Georgiana successfully defended her thesis and graduated with honors.

The birth of her first child was a traumatic experience. She was told if he survived, he would suffer from brain damage due to a lack of oxygen for an extended period of time. As a dedicated first-time mother and medical professional, she researched and found groundbreaking new studies of early intervention and worked tirelessly dedicating herself to making sure that her child would overcome the experience and excel. That level of dedication and tireless service continued with all five of her children. She encouraged them in their interests, celebrated their successes, and
comforted them in their disappointments. Her children always knew they were loved and cherished.

Soon after the birth of their first child the little family moved to New Jersey where they welcomed their second child. They later moved to Missouri where they celebrated the birth of their third child and finally back to Utah where Georgiana worked as a Professor of Nursing at the University of Utah, they built their “home” and completed their family with the birth of their two daughters.

Georgiana was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served faithfully in a variety of callings throughout her life. However, her greatest calling was her Christlike example. Georgiana was an angel on earth, influencing family and friends for good. She had a way of making everyone feel valued and special. She created a space for individuals to be heard and seen with love and compassion. Her Christlike life was filled with service, sacrifice, love, and empathy. Many hearts and lives will be forever changed due to her angelic influence and example.

Georgiana was preceded in death by her brother Robert Thomas Black Jr. and her parents Robert Thomas Black Sr. and Lydia Black. She is survived by her children: John David Day (Jane Ann Burdick), Michael Thomas Day (Krista Redd), Brian Jesse Day (Briettney Poore), Christine Louise Tanner (Andrew David Tanner), Jennifer Sarah Day, and grandchildren: Joshua David Day, Kristianna Sarah Day, Jacob Daniel Day, Michael Joseph Day, Elizabeth Jane Day, Ethan David Tanner, Lauren Jesse Poore Day, Rebekah Louise Tanner, Benjamin Thomas Day, Asher Thomas Tanner, Stella Elizabeth Poore Day, Marianna Eva Day, Seth Frederick Tanner, Matthew John Day, Hannah Grace Tanner.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Lone Hollow Ward, 2195 Pepperwood Drive (10900 S)., Sandy Utah 84092. A visitation will be held Friday, November 17, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Rd (10600 S), and the day of the service at the church from 10:00-10:45 a.m.

Special thanks to all of Georgiana’s caregivers for their love, dedication, and service to her and the Day family.

For Georgiana and John,

Sheila and I have known Georgiana and Dr. John T. Day, (my former Employer), for well over 30-years.

I can attest that a “Great Boss” is usually blessed with a “Great Spouse” - and for many, many years.

Integrity, Caring and Loyalty are just a few of the fine attributes that Georgiana and John espoused and nurtured in their family, friends and associates.

Thinking kind thoughts…
