Gerald Wayne Hutton

Gerald Wayne Hutton, born November 17, 1951, returned home to his loving Heavenly Parents on September 12, 2026. Jerry grew up in Ogden, Utah where he developed a love of the outdoors and spent his time fishing, hiking, and trapping muskrats. After moving to California and graduating from Magnolia High School in Anaheim he attended Chico State University and studied forestry. He met and married Shelly Hiles in Susanville (later divorced). Upon returning to Utah, he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and shortly thereafter met and married Julie Larson (later divorced). He met his best friend and eternal companion, JoAnne Budd, on a UTA bus and they laughed their way through the last 21 years of his life. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 3, 2017. Jerry loved spending time with his kids going to sporting and cultural events. He and JoAnne enjoyed discovering ancestry sites and visiting family during their many wanderings throughout the world. He was enthusiastic about nature and delighted in caring for his bees. He was very passionate about family history work and temple ordinances. He spent the majority of his career building the Kingdom of God through employment with the Church.

He is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, JoAnne, and children: Christopher (Rachel), David (Kristen), Spencer (Brooke), Sarah (Amos), Tracy (Sheri), Troy (Cristen), Tawnya (Ray), and Tina (Benjamin). Jerry is a grandfather to 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Additionally survived by his brother Steve (Sheila).

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Hutton Jr. (Ruth) and Norma Johnson (Don), his twin brother, Lawrence, and his step-brother Michael Hutton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on September 18, 2026, at the Harvestland Ward, 2976 West Winchester Drive, West Valley City, UT, 84119. A viewing will be held prior to servcies at the same location beginning at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Sandy, Utah.
