Jul 1, 2023 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

We are saddened by the passing or our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother Gloria Ann Olsen. Gloria was born in Salt Lake on December 7, 1932 and died June 27, 2023. She graduated from South High School in 1951, and married her high school sweetheart Ted H. Olsen on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1952.

Mom had a natural-born ability to create a loving, warm home for her family. It didn’t matter how small or big the house, Mom made it a home. Holidays were always a special occasion; not just the big hitters like Thanksgiving and Christmas, but even Super bowl Sunday was a celebration at our house. She cooked up a storm from “soup to nuts,” as Mom would always say. The Christmas treats were beyond delicious. She never missed a chance to make even the simplest family gatherings a special occasion.

Gloria was born in Salt Lake City to Teresa Leone and Walter Dewey Ray on December 7, 1932. After Teresa divorced, Gloria was adopted by Harry H. Skillhorn, whom she always called “Harry,” but loved him as much if not more than her own dad. She was preceded in death by husband Ted and brother Robert K. Ray. Gloria worked for a short time with Mountain Bell, but soon left to dedicate her life to her home and family.

Gloria is survived by her daughter Terri (Brandt), sons: Jerry, James (Gygi), seven grandchildren: Tyler, Spencer (Megan), Libby, Chelsey, Jake, Jamie (Jacob), and Lucas; five great grandchildren: Paisley, Piper, Callum, Easton, and Blake.
Gloria enjoyed cooking and baking, painting, and playing bridge with the Crockets, Ujifusas, and Bachmans. She was a loving care-giver for her mother, until her passing in 1997.

An innichement memorial will be held Saturday, July 1st at 10:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East, Dimple Dell Road (10600 So.) when her remains will be placed with her loving husband, Ted. Special blessings to all the caregivers at Sunrise Senior Living; especially Rebecca and Alexander, and Kate from Inspiration Hospice. Your love and care will never go unnoticed.

Goodnight, Mom. We’ll wipe the counters for you.

Guestbook/Condolences

We want to extend to you our sympathy in the loss of your beautiful mother. We have certainly missed Gloria and Ted at the cabin. We are sure they are out for a walk hand in hand.
Our sympathies, Judy and Dave
