Gordon Dean Jensen

1938 ~ 2022

One of the good ones

On a beautiful spring morning, as Gordy readied himself for his day’s next adventure in the great outdoors, God opened another vista for him to experience.

Gordy was born on March 22, 1938 to Lawrence and Lorraine Jensen. He enjoyed being the middle brother between Larry and Don, both whom he admired greatly and made great strides to stay close to. He grew up in Salt Lake City and at a young age became a business entrepreneur by selling nightcrawlers on 2100 South. He carried these early honed skills for business through his entire life. He graduated from Olympus High School and soon thereafter, married the love of his life, Nancy Kay. Her parents, Alden and Laverna, welcomed him into their family as their own. Gordy and Nancy had a wonderful family of one daughter and four sons. Gordy and Nancy were proud of their little brood that they raised on Creek Road. He taught his children honesty, hard work, thrift, honor for ancestors, and love for the Lord.

Gordy loved to get together with his children and grandchildren on a boat at Lake Powell or East Canyon, and in later years around the table at Golden Corral. Always a good conversationalist, he was quick to ask about each person's life and activities. His grandchildren will treasure their memories there and “the numbers” game. Sunday rides on his Harley, especially with his sons, daughter and son-in-law, were another one of his joyful moments. He didn't like a helmet and enjoyed feeling the sun on his face and wind in his hair. Always handsome with his well-groomed mustache, cowboy boots, and a shirt with pearl snaps. His time spent rooting with his loving wife Nancy was his heaven on earth. They loved riding their razor 4-wheeler together, whether that was in the Henry Mountains or beautiful southern Utah. Evenings would find them together settled around a campfire with a bowl of homemade stew. We feel thankful that it was on such an adventure as this, that God called him home.

Gordy had many business adventures, but the one he was most proud of was his trucking company. Gordon Jensen Trucking was a refuge for him, and he found great joy in employing family and friends who became like family. He worked hard and taught all those around him the value of giving a job your all. He was a great provider to his family and an honest man. Gordy loved the warmth and smell of his wood burning stove both at home and at the office. The only thing that made it better was sitting next to it in his rocking chair, reading a good book. He loved growing and sharing produce from his garden until he realized the foxes and deer were enjoying the fruits more than he and Nancy were. He put down his hoe and took to feeding and watching foxes and birds. Gordy loved the Lord and found joy in his love of Jesus Christ. We find it safe to say that God wrapped Gordy in His arms and whispered, “You are one of the good ones.”

Gordon is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Nancy; his children, Clint (Sally), Dale (Barbara), Brenda (Tom) Skowyra, Zane (Kim); 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brothers Larry and Don (Kathy). Preceded in death by his son Wes, parents Laurence and Lorraine.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 22, 2022 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah. A visitation will be held from 12:00 – 1:30 pm prior to the services.

Gordy, sadly I didn't know you as well as most. I do know the love you had for your family and liked having them around. Telling stories about what was going on in their lives and being truly interested. Anytime we were conversing with you, you made us feel like we were the only person in the room. Listening. A rare quality these days. I know how much Zane looked up to you. A self made man. With love. May your memory be eternal ~

My deepest condolences to Gordys family to My Aunt Nancy and to my Cousins Clint (Sally) Dale, Zane, Brenda (Tom) and to their children
Gordon was an uncle but also a Iconic figure to me and someone I’ll always remember . I looked up to him so much as a child and to this day as true man of the west he was one of a kind and anyone who met him would know this . His warm personality and inquisitive nature made you always feel like he cared and that you mattered to him . He was so generous and kind and truly led by example . I will always honor his memory and these values I learned from him .
I love you Uncle Gordy

Gordy was so good to me when I drove for him probably close to 30 years ago. I was wounded when I found his obit online and to see that this happened such a short time ago. He was seriously a great man! I know he knew I struggled in life but I don't feel like he ever looked down on me for the choices I made, even when those choices cost him. I am a business owner myself now and I am so sorry for the crap he had to deal with from me. What a stud!
