Gordon Kay Funk, aged 69, passed away on March 17, 2026, after suffering a severe fall. He was born May 10, 1956, in Gunnison, Utah, to Norma Jean and Alvin Odell Funk.
Gordon grew up in Centerfield, Utah, raised by his mother as an only child. He graduated from Gunnison Valley High School in 1974, then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Diego, California, from 1976 to 1978. In 1976, he completed his studies at Snow College, later earning a bachelor’s degree with high honors in Elementary Education and Art Endorsements from Utah State University in 1980.
Gordon married his angel wife, Shawna Davis, at the Manti Temple in 1980. They had two children: Chris (Emily) Funk and Melissa (Bret) Foust. Gordon is also survived by his granddaughters Sophia and Stella Funk, and grandsons Fallen, Kingston, and Bodin Foust. His absence will be deeply felt.
Gordon taught at Terra Linda Elementary for 23 years, earning the affection of students and parents alike. He loved music, especially Garth Brooks and Michael Bublé—drawing, his Ford Mustang, and anything Tommy Hilfiger.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all the nurses and doctors at IMC, with special appreciation for the ICU Shock Trauma Unit.
He is survived by cousins Doug Sorenson and Bruce Sorenson; his aunt Margaret Ann & uncle Lloyd Kofford; cousins Kurt Oliverson, and Dave Adams; stepmother Arlene Funk; stepsiblings Jeri and Kelly Young, Shanna and Wendell Roberts, Glenn and Brenda Funk, Chad & Julie Funk, and Brad and Shilo Funk; and many other cherished relatives not listed here.
Gordon was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jean Funk, and father Alvin Odell Funk; stepbrother Shane Funk, aunt Lois Sorenson, uncle Kurt Sorenson; cousins Russell Sorenson, Stacy Simper, LoraLee Oliverson, and Mary Lynn Adams; father-in-law David Davis, and mother-in-law Audrey Davis.
He will be greatly missed by all, and as Bodin Bear Foust would say: bye pa! Gordon, your checkbook is finally balanced.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am on March 28, 2026, at the Ward Meeting House, 9376 South 4000 West, West Jordan, UT 84088. A viewing will be held at Larkin Mortuary - Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South, Riverton, UT 84065, on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 6-8 pm, as well as Saturday prior to services at the ward beginning at 9 am. Interment and graveside services will take place in Centerfield, Utah at approximately 3 pm.
