Grant Lewis Beere died Tuesday, November 2, 2021 in Cedar City, Utah at the age of 62 after a short but valiant fight against brain cancer. Grant was born on August 2, 1959 in Roosevelt, Utah to Glen Lewis Beere and Sonja Kay Thursby Beere. He was followed six years later by his sister, Sydney. Grant was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Grant went to Brighton High School in Salt Lake City where his dad was his principal; this kept him from getting in too much trouble. He was a member of the BHS golf team and ran the stats and score table for the basketball games. After high school graduation, Grant worked for Pepsi Bottling Company delivering to stores until he went on to play for the golf team at Dixie State University (then Dixie College) where he received his Associate’s. He then finished his bachelor’s degree at SUU (then Southern Utah State College) where he played on their golf team and majored in Physical Education and Mathematics. Grant taught at Bingham High School in their mathematics department for over 30 years. He was the assistant football coach and assistant track coach over sprints and relays and then was later head track coach. If Grant couldn’t be golfing, coaching his state-champ-winning track team is where he would want to be. Grant’s stops to see his sister on quick trips to Vegas, his veracious appetite for a good game of golf, and his dry wit and loyalty to friends, his two cats, and family will be sorely missed. He’s definitely “hitting them high” with his dad somewhere beautiful.

Grant is survived by his sister Sydney Alaine Beere Nakken (Robert); nieces and nephews Erik (Kaitlin) Nakken, Josie (Tyler) Carter, Abigail Nakken, Samantha Nakken, and Ellie Nakken; and by many amazing aunts, uncles, and cousins and his “adopted” parents Jim and Lois Kearns. He is also survived by many golfing friends that he considered family. Grant was preceded in death by his father, Glen Lewis Beere, and his mother, Sonja Kay Thursby Beere.

A closed-casket funeral service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 3:00 pm in the chapel at the Larkin Sunset Garden, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy, Utah. We would love to have you join us.

Grant’s family would like to thank those that helped him fight the cancer battle: The Huntsman Cancer Team including Dr. Colman, caretakers at Encompass Rehabilitation Center and St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center, and those that made him comfortable his last week at Cedar Health and Rehabilitation Center. They would especially like to thank Brad Bevan, John Oswald, John Jacobs, Samantha Nakken, Billie McGrath, and Julie McCulley for driving him to radiation and caring for him in so many selfless ways. Your sacrifices are what made Grant’s life bearable these last few months.

Guestbook/Condolences

I only knew Grant for a short period of time but in those few years I realized what a kind soul he was and how he enjoyed life. He was always talking about his golf and how much he enjoyed playing with his buddies.
Our last time together was before he started his treatments. We enjoyed the animals at Hogle Zoo. It was a warm day but, he was a trooper. The giraffe's entertained us.
He was a proud man because my attempts to contact him after that day were futile. Thank you, Dear sister Sydney for letting me know.
Grant had a wonderful family and he is blessed.
Grant, may you be hitting balls in Heaven and rejoicing in seeing your loved ones again.
Love,
Jeanine
