Grant Sudweeks

1942 ~ 2022

Grant Sudweeks passed away peacefully on July 14, 2022, in Draper, Utah.

Grant was born on September 1, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Leo and Selena Sudweeks. Grant proudly attended West High school graduating in 1960. Shortly after graduation, he married Colleen Howell and they welcomed two children, Jeff, and Michelle. They later divorced. In May 1974 Grant married Kathy Kress and they later welcomed one daughter, Hillary.

Grant spent many years working for Xerox as a technician and service manager where he met many great friends and got to tinker on machines all day. He was a man of many talents and hobbies. He had a deep love for and knowledge of Lake Powell and loved all things boating- a hobby he proudly passed on to his children. He could often be found tinkering on a project or setting up his latest gadget or electronic. He had a great love for his dogs- poodles with a Catahoula in the mix and took great pride in his yard. He spent many hours perfecting his lawn and walking the trails of Dimple Dell Park. He also had a notable shoe, watch, and tool collection and was the resident family weatherman. He could also never turn down a good research project to find the best of the best in tires, cars, or weather stations.

Grant was an incredible father and husband. He was always, always only a phone call away for any need his wife or kids had. But his most beloved title was that of Grandpa. He had a special relationship with his grandkids and great-grandchildren and typically couldn’t say no to their requests, no matter how outlandish. He found great joy in getting them treats and letting them put ice cream on their noses, letting them stick their tongues out whenever they wanted, and giving his youngest granddaughter (slow) rides around the block with her head out the sunroof. He was deeply proud of their accomplishments and found true joy in spending time with them. The delighted and mischievous giggles from both Grandpa and the grandkids will not soon be forgotten.

Grant is survived by his wife, Kathy, son, Jeff Sudweeks, daughter Hillary KS Carter (Cody), grandchildren, Anthony Sudweeks (Laura), Casey Miles, Curtis Miles, McKinley Carter, and great-grandchildren, Adelaide Sudweeks and Quinn Coccimiglio. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Michelle McEntire, and grandsons, Brian Sudweeks and Cameron Miles.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, UT 84092

Grant was a good friend as well as a work colleague. He was a jovial person and great personality. My most memorable experience is when he and I went to work in Rock Springs. We got done early and headed to Flaming George Dam. He brought his boat of course and we did some fishing and boating the rest of the afternoon. This of course was financed by our trip to Rock Springs to do "Xerox work".
Thanks Grant for many years of good friendship.

So sorry to hear about Grant. I’ll always remember him as the being a quiet, most patient husband/dad when you would come visit me at the store. He always had a smile, and I could tell that he loved you both so very much.❤️

Hi Kathy, I am very sorry for your loss. Both you and Grant were good friends to me. I enjoyed working with you both at Xerox and talking boats with Grant. I will always remember his laugh. The picture of Grant holding his cup in the air pretty much sums up how I remember him. Times like this give us a chance to reflect on all the people that touch our lives throughout the years and how those times help shape us in to who we are now.
My wife and I were visiting SLC from New York back in April. We ended up on a road that reminded me of where you lived when we had a team party at your house. While waiting in the car for my wife, I was trying to find your address on my phone. I had thought about stopping by to say hello if we were close by. Unfortunately I ran out of time. I wish now I had pursued it more.
Take care,

I am so very sorry to hear of Grant’s passing. He and Kathy were so welcoming to me when I moved to SLC. I can still hear his laugh/giggle singing thru the hallways at work which always made the day much better. I still say he was a closet Chicago Bears fan even when he as giving me a hard time about my team. As they say in my Irish family, may he be singing with St. Peter before the devil knows he’s gone.

Prayers to the family.

My sincere condolences to Kathy and Hillary and the entire family. I had the pleasure of working with Grant for many years at Xerox and always found him to be kind, good natured and someone you would want on your team. I would say that Grant was the first employee of Xerox in Salt Lake City when a branch office was opened in the late 1960s. I also greatly admired his boundless energy in serving his community by delivering "Meals on Wheels" and having many funny stories to share with his former colleagues. Grant will be missed and may he rest in peace.
