Gregory Fredrick Kunkel, of South Jordan, Utah, passed away on June 8, 2023, in his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Greg was born September 1, 1957 in Ogden, Utah, to Burton and Beverly Kunkel. Growing up on his family’s farm in Willard, Utah, he gained an appreciation for hard work and a love for animals that he carried throughout his life. He graduated from Box Elder High in 1975, where he met his best friend and love of his life, Wendy. Greg and Wendy married on July 15, 1977 in Ogden Utah. Together, they spent their honeymoon, anniversaries, and many family vacations in Yellowstone. Anyone who knew Greg, knew that he loved his dear Wendy. He raved about her to anyone and everyone when given a chance. Together, they created their three M&M’s, their children Mike, Matt, and Michelle. Greg was an outdoorsman to the fullest extent. He especially loved hunting, fishing, and camping. Greg was a very accomplished hunter and proudly displayed his mounts and was eager to share his hunting stories. Although Greg could be a rugged outdoorsman, those that knew him best, knew him to be a gentle, kind, and loving family man. His children and grandchildren saw him as their biggest supporter and he enjoyed watching their activities and sporting events. Greg had a great sense of humor and loved to tease those closest to him. He was known for always doing the right thing, even when nobody was watching, and instilled this in his three children. Greg was loved by many, including his family, friends, and coworkers at AMSCO Windows, where he worked for 45 years.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Burton and Beverly Kunkel, his brother Rick. Greg is survived by his wife Wendy, sisters Lori and Becky; children: Michael (Alisha), Matthew (Rachael), and Michelle (Adam); grandchildren: Lawson, Ambrea, Vivian, Oakley, Violet, Leo, Olivia, Makenna, Amila, and Declan

To the Kunkel family,

First off I want to express my condolences to the entire family! I know how much he meant to all of you and how that love was reciprocated. Greg was one hell of a man and will be missed by many.

There aren't many people that I would be willing to invite on a hunting trip after only knowing them for a short period of time.
Greg was one of those guys!

I met Greg through my sister in law, Angie Walker, and it seems we became friends instantly. I was able to share several hunting camps with Greg and the kids. His hunting stories are some I will remember forever. From sitting in his tree stand in Soap Stone to wearing his orange jump suit on the rifle deer hunt.

My only wish is that I could have one more night around the camp fire with Greg to reminisce and tell hunting stories from the past.

And to you, Wendy, he loved you dearly and would always comment how you were his rock and the glue behind the scenes.❤️❤️

From my family to yours, we love you all and know that you will be on our thoughts!

Dear Wendy, Michael, Matt, and Michelle,
Sending our deepest condolences on the loss of your sweet Husband and Dad. Greg was a wonderful friend and such a good man. It was a pleasure to work with him for so many years. Greg was truly a man without guile, so genuine, kind and thoughtful. Even though his life ended way too early, he lived it better than most by the way he did live and the way he treated all those around him. May the spirit of the Lord fill your hearts with all the good memories and comfort you at those times it is needed.
With Love and Sincere Condolences,
Tracy and Denise Shaver and Family

We are honored to have known and loved Greg. Our hearts are broken as we are flooded with memories of Greg. The kindness and love he consistently showered upon our family from the day we met him was truly profound and impacted us forever. We struggle to put into words how much he and Wendy have always meant to our family. Greg is an example of loyalty, service, hard work, dedication to family and genuine kindness. It felt so good to know that whatever happened, Greg was across the street and would do anything to help us. I can still hear him laughing with us and watching our kids play and he would say, “Just enjoy them! They grow up so fast…enjoy every minute!” His wisdom, the twinkle in his eye and his warm smile - we will always treasure Greg. When faced with a tough situation over the years we often say, “What would Greg & Wendy do?” Year after year we admired him as he devoted his life to being a loving husband, father and grandpa. We could always trust in Greg’s advice and guidance. He is without question one of the finest men we have ever known. Our love is with you Wendy, Mike, Matt, Michelle and family. Love Angie, Scott, Jackson & Raquel Walker
