“Don’t take yourself too seriously, no one else does.”

Gregory Warner peacefully passed away at home while holding the hand of the love of his life, Patrice, in Draper, Utah on December 4, 2020 at the age of 73. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just two weeks before his passing. He was born in Provo, Utah.

Greg’s passion in life was serving others through the practice of law. He was a devoted, selfless, and incredibly intelligent public servant, who will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune and pleasure to serve with him. Greg loved his family with his entire heart and spirit and was so proud of each of his children and their many accomplishments and future goals and endeavors.

Greg loved the law, his country, and politics. He enjoyed handball, golf, boating, and trips to Lake Powell.

Greg served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 to 1971. He received the Naval Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service while serving in the Republic of Vietnam (1967-1969). At the time of his honorable discharge in 1971, Greg held the rank of Sergeant.

Greg earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at Brigham Young University (1972), he attended Drake University Law School (1972-1973) before earning his Juris Doctorate at The University of Utah College of Law, where he was admitted with Advanced Standing, (1975). Greg was admitted to the Utah State Bar in 1975. He earned his LL.M. (Master of Laws) in Taxation at New York University School of Law (1977).

Greg’s practice throughout his career focused on criminal law. He served as a public defender in Utah County prior to joining the Office of the Salt Lake County District Attorney where he served as a Deputy District Attorney for 30 years from 1987 until his retirement in November 2017. Greg did not take to retirement and was called back to public service. He served as a public defender for the Utah County Public Defenders Association specializing in juvenile law and representing the county’s youth from September 2019 until his death.

Greg was a fierce advocate in the pursuit of justice. His sense of humor was unmatched and his skill of impeccably timed one-liners always kept his family and friends laughing. His life was a life well lived. He will be missed and forever in our hearts.

Greg was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Greg is survived by his wife Patrice Warner and his sister Pamela Brown (Bob); his seven children: Marcus Flinders (Rebecca), Kristen Flinders-Warner (Brian, Antonette), Thomas E. Batey II (Jonna), Kathryn Warner de Hoyos (Dave), Jessica A. Warner (Sam), Brittany M. Warner, Alexandra “Ally” Warner (Kyle); his eight grandchildren: Meagan, Camden, Kaleb, Elle, Tony, Halia, Autumn, Cailin, and Amara; and his great-grandson Evander.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents Meldon and Gwendolyn Warner and his brothers Mark Warner and Matthew Warner.

The family thanks Dr. Gulbrandsen and staff at Alta View Hospital for the care provided during an incredibly difficult time to our husband, brother, father, and grandfather.

In lieu of flowers, we request that you please consider donating to causes and charities for pancreatic cancer research.

Patrice and kids... We are greatly saddened at Greg's passing and deeply sobered by the fact that one of our dear and long-time friend has left the Trucker's Association one short. We're all at that time in life when we see that graduation from mortality more clearly, and Gregie has stepped up to that plate to prepare and lead the way for the rest of us. We anxiously await the celebration of his life this coming summer, and look forward to putting our arms around you with encouraging faith and firm belief that he is progressing with that same wonderful personality and drive that he thrived on here. Oh, to have his insight now.

Be at peace, kid. It's all part of the great plan. Your separation from him is only temporary. We belong to a Church with happy endings... :) You're loved!

I wish I had the chance to meet you, Greg. You upheld the law and the Constitution above political persuasion. Your granddaughter's the best thing that ever happened to my grandson.

How can I say thank you, Gregor, for being such a fantastic, considerate, strong, fun-loving and caring brother from Day One? I was blessed with 3 extraordinary brothers, each born about 7 years apart. Each one of them had special qualities and gifts that I benefited greatly from. Now that they’re all in Heaven with Mom & Dad… I am reeling from something akin to “a disturbance in the Force”! All my love and respect to family and friends of this great man, as well! Godspeed, Gregor – Love you forever!!!

Hello Warners,

I remember some of Greg's one liners and always remember him being kind and generous. I have thought a lot about the challenges and obstacles that came from growing up with a paralyzed father and the stresses that were surely present. I am impressed at the fortitude each of the siblings developed to overcome, while still embracing the empathy and compassion for others. Greg's love was shown in his service and dedication to those that most needed and ally and advocate.
We send our love and our best feelings and wish you the best memories of Uncle Greg.
Love,
Nick Warner
