Don Armstrong Stringham, 84, passed away peacefully on June 7th, 2019, having lived a full and adventurous life.
Don was born in Bountiful, Utah, the third of four children to Beatrice Armstrong Stringham and Don Gordon Stringham. He graduated from Davis High School, where he was a student body officer and played on the football and baseball teams. After high school, he served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Germany. Following full-time missionary service, he became an honors student and graduated with a degree in Economics from the University of Utah. He was also a member of the University of Utah ROTC and later served as a finance officer in the US Army. In 1964 he earned his JD from the University of Utah College of Law, where he graduated Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Delta Phi and was a member of the Utah Law Review. He subsequently clerked at the Utah Supreme Court.
He began his legal career with a large law firm in Salt Lake City, and then founded his own law firm specializing in tax law, estate planning and retirement plans. He also served as the President of the Young Lawyers Association of the Utah Bar Association. His practice expanded to include structuring, funding and management of many successful international business enterprises. After decades of practicing law, he transitioned to business and became the Chief Executive Officer of International Business Development Group LLC. In this new role, he was a moving force in the creation and expansion of numerous businesses based upon emerging technologies and development of industrial properties to commercialize technology and science such as at University of Utah Research Park, Cornell University and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Don became a frequent lecturer and served on numerous boards of directors of organizations involved in development, technology commercialization, new business creation and international trade.
Don was a friend to everyone he met, and he delighted in delivering fresh bread and home-grown fruits and vegetables to neighbors and those in need. He was a great advocate for people who were going through difficult times and he always did his best to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lise (Annelise) Vazulik of Vienna, Austria, and their four sons Daniel (Susan) of Randolph, NJ, David (Kathie) of Easton, NH, Jim (Sheree) and Thomas (Jill) of Salt Lake City and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 15th, at 4:00 pm at the Hilltop Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 589 East 18th Avenue, Salt Lake City Utah, 84103. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 14th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT, 84111 as well as on June 15th at 2:30 pm at the Hilltop Ward Chapel prior to the funeral. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
