Jeffrey Guy Jones

1959 ~ 2020

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 11th, 2020 with his loving wife by his side.

Jeffrey Guy Jones was born at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, California on August 28th 1959, the fourth and last child of Maynard Grant Jones and Charlotte Rose Hall. Soon after, the Jones family was transferred to Plattsburgh, New York where Jeff lived until he was 19 years old.

Jeff always loved being outside, even in the frigid New York winters, and spent most of his time playing sports or swimming at the local beach. Jeff had a deep love for cats, and they could be always be found with him, eating his food or snuggling in a warm chair. He did well in school and he really enjoyed reading books, especially as a young boy.

When Jeff was 20, he moved to Mesa, Arizona where his father was living at the time; he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints a few months later. He always said that was the best decision he ever made. In January of 1981, Jeff began his mission to Caracas, Venezuela; this helped him build a strong spiritual foundation that he maintained for the rest of his life.

In January of 1983, Jeff was married to Laura Lowe in Los Angeles, California; they started their married life living in Newport Beach. Soon after, they headed to Provo, Utah for Jeff to attend Brigham Young University. Jeff worked in finance for the rest of his life, eventually co-founding and running two successful companies.

Jeff and Laura adopted three beautiful children, Ashley, Craig and Makayla. Jeff loved to spend time with the three of them. Their favorite activities were playing in the pool, going on long walks, and creating some crazy games. Jeff deeply loved his children and considered them some of his dearest friends throughout his life.

Jeff had the opportunity to serve in many wonderful church callings, but teaching was always his favorite. He really enjoyed serving as a bishop in Ladera Ranch, California and loved the opportunity to serve the young people at BYU as a Stake President's counselor. He often said that serving as a home teacher is where he made the biggest impact for good on the lives of others.

In 2018 Jeff and Laura divorced, and Jeff subsequently met the love of his life Sheridan Gray-Jones; they were married in October of 2018. Sheridan and Jeff packed a lifetime of memories into the next 17 months of their marriage— they were two peas in a pod. Although their time together in this life was brief, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Rome Italy Temple.

After a severe case of pneumonia and heart problems, it was discovered that he had terminal stomach cancer that had spread to his liver. With just a short time to live, he focused on spending time with his treasured family members whom he loved dearly.

He is preceded in death by his father Maynard Jones and mother Charlotte Hall. Jeff is survived by his beloved wife Sheridan Gray-Jones. He is also survived by granddaughter Zoey, his children Ashley Jones, Craig (Mackenzie) Jones, Makayla Jones, Rowan Redmond, Kiera Redmond, and Magdalen Redmond, his siblings Cheryl Jones, Randy Jones, and Casey Jones. Jeff was much loved, and his presence will be greatly missed.

Services will be held in his honor on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at the Twentieth Ward, 107 N G Street, SLC, UT. The family will be receiving guests from 10-10:45 A.M. at the same location. A family prayer will be delivered at 10:45 A.M.
