  • Our loving mother, GunnieLue Poulsen Bennett, 92, died March 11, 2023 after a long and persistent effort to remain in this life with her family…as long as she could.

She was born in a coal camp, at National, in Carbon County, Utah on December 13,1930 to Shirley (Sam) Poulsen and Aletha (mama Keates) Gunderson Poulsen. She was raised all over the western U.S. which included several towns in Utah, Nevada, California and Oregon. During her adolescence, she attended 12 different schools in 12 years, finally returning to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she remained for the rest of her life. She married Horace DuWaine Bennett on May 18, 1949 and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 18, 1951. Her life was one of service to her family, church, friends and neighbors.

Gunnie was married to DuWaine for 62 years, until his death on February 13, 2011 and is survived by her children: Christopher Bennett; Karyn Miller; Kathy (Brian) Edginton; and Dayle (Lane) Bennett. She leaves 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

A viewing and funeral services will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023 at the Stratford Ward, 2635 South 1500 East, Salt Lake City. The viewing will be held at 10:00 - 10:45 am followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Garden, 1950 East 10600 So. Sandy, Utah

What a wonderful, kind, and funny lady, enjoyed many visits with her and Dwayne.
Think of all he blessed children and grandchildren.

I was fortunate enough to live two doors down from this lovely lady for nearly 50 years. We raised our children at the same time. Gunnie Lu was a bright spirit who was always willing to help anyone in need. She will certainly be missed, but am sure she has deserved a well needed rest and joining up with Dwayne.❤️

To Dayle and the Bennett Family,
May the love of those around you help you through the days ahead.
I remember the times I shared with Lane, Dayle, and Gunnie in Boise and Yellow Pine.
Gunnie always held family close to her heart.

My love and condolences to the Bennett family. Your parents were such a big part of our Stratford Ward and neighborhood. I truly can’t picture either of them without their warm friendly smiles and greetings. Gunnie Lou was a fixture in our DUP group adding so much with her stories and knowledge. I’m sorry I was not in town for the funeral.
