William Boyd Sessions

1930 ~ 2016

William Boyd Sessions, 85, devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather and friend passed away at his home in West Jordan on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Boyd loved so many things. He loved his family above all else. He was devoted to his faith and his testimony was strong to the end. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, skiing, traveling with Karen and spending time with his family. He especially loved it when his grandchildren came to visit. He served in various callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Bishop, Counselor, High Counsel, Stake Patriarch and many others. He was instrumental in the building of the gospel in the Waynesville/Fort Leonard Wood Missouri area. He was the first Branch President of that area. He also served as Bishop later in that area. He, his family and many members held numerous fund raisers to help build the first phase of the Church building there. The chapel and second phase was completed just before he left the area and moved to Brigham City Utah. He was a master of many things, woodworking was a favorite past time of his. He loved to remodel homes and nearly every home he ever lived in he managed to remodel some part of it. He worked as a millwright in his profession. He worked at Fort Leonard Wood Army Base in Missouri, Thiokol in Brigham City and he retired from Tooele Depot in Tooele. He served in the Army and was a construction engineer. He could fix any appliance or car and he made many woodworking projects for his children. He was an avid scripture reader. He often woke up at 4:30 am to read scriptures before he went to work. He served a mission in the Arizona Tucson mission with his wife Betty Lera Jones Sessions resulting in 10 baptisms. He loved serving in the Jordan River Temple as an ordinance worker. He was a member of the Temple Riders, a group of seniors who rode their motorcycles all over Utah to do temple work in various temples through the state. He was the youngest of 12 children raised by his mother after his father passed away when he was 7 years old. After the death of his wife Betty he married M Karen Sullivan they were sealed in the Jordon River Temple. They have enjoyed 21 years together she is a great love of his life. He was a spiritual giant to our family and many others. He will be missed but never forgotten. "Families Are Forever"

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolphe and Chloe Sessions, wife Betty Lera Sessions, sons, Don Michael Irwin and Boyd DeWayne Sessions. Also, 10 brothers and sisters, Ken, Roy, Bernard, Nina, Lila, Reba, Violet, Barbara, Sarah, Evelyn, also 2 great grandchildren Katarina Cortez, Ryan Gluff and Delbert Ritter.

He is survived by his wife Karen Sessions, sister Maxine Kummer (Gail) son Gail Sessions (Maria), daughter in law Kathy Irwin, daughters, Nancy Ritter, Joyce Luscombe, Debbie Cheney, (Bryan), Diann Sessions and Patti Christie (David), 26 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Heidi with Hearts for Hospice and all of the staff for taking such loving care of our Dad. Heidi especially showed so much love for our Dad during this time. We will never be able to thank her enough for the kind and gentle way she worked with our Dad.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Willow Grove Ward, 8539 South 2200 West, West Jordan, Utah. Viewings will be held on Sunday night from 6:00 ‚ 8:00 pm and also on Monday from 9:30-10:45 am prior to services at the Ward. Interment will take place in the Park City Cemetery.
