Carole Beth Brown Smith

1932 ~ 2016

Carole Beth Brown Smith, 83 years old, passed away on May 30, 2016. She suffered from many illnesses including heart problems, dementia, and neuropathy. Carole was born November 28, 1932 in Murray, Utah. She was the only daughter of Douglass and Florence Brown and sister to the late Ronald Brown (LaMona), the late Michael C. Brown (Patricia), and brother Stephen B. Brown (Peggy). Carole grew up in Idaho Falls as a young girl and then the family moved to Salt Lake City, while in Salt Lake City, she attended Erving Junior High and later graduated from South High School. After high school, Carole worked at JC Penney's where she met Calvin K. Smith and later wrote him letters while he was in the military. They became best friends and she married her eternal companion in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 10, 1955. Carole and Cal have celebrated nearly 61 years of marriage together. During the early years of their marriage she worked at Dixon Paper Company. Carole had a beautiful family; daughter, the late Lory Ann Smith, daughter Marla Kay (Smith) Lay (Michael), son Sterling C. Smith (Betty) and daughter Lisa Marie (Smith) Jones (Jeffery). Carole had 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Carole enjoyed vacationing with her family and friends. Many trips were taken with their best friends, Diana and Dale Seiter, whom Carole met in junior high. The four friends traveled to many places throughout North America, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal together. They had a life-long friendship and remained best friends until their passing. Carole was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held many positions such as, First Counselor in the Relief Society, and proudly served for 31 years as the Ward and Stake Librarian.

Carole loved family gatherings, especially getting together at her parent's home.

The family wants to thank everyone that has helped with Carole's care along the way. Her most recent stay was at the Beehive Home in West Jordan. They adored her and treated us all like family. We would like to thank Inspiration Hospice, doctor Steve, her nurse Shane, and the Staff for taking such good care of her.
