Donald Gene Hardcastle

1931 ~ 2014

Our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, Donald Gene Hardcastle, 83, passed peacefully away on December 16, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Riverton, Utah on March 5, 1931 to Alma Glen and Jane Withers Hardcastle. He grew up on the original Hardcastle Homestead in Sandy, Utah and was always proud to say, "it has never been bought, never been sold and never had a mortgage on it." Don proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Shortly after returning home from the service he met the love of his life Pauleen Miller and they were married on January 26, 1955. They were soon joined by 2 lucky children; their marriage lasted 52 years until Pauleen's passing in 2007. Don proudly worked for Kennecott Copper Company as a crane operator for over 30 years. Don and Pauleen's home was always open to everyone and they had a wonderful way of making everyone feel like a member of the family. Don will be remembered as a amazing family man, friend and all around wonderful guy who loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.

He is survived by his son, Quinn (Carol Ann) Hardcastle, daughter, Staci (Mike) Johnson, grandchildren, Brittany (Bronson) Smith, Jeff, Skyler, and Jake Johnson, great granddaughters, Ralena, Jett, Roxy. Sister, Marjorie (Charles) Boynton, sister-in-law, Alice Hardcastle, brother-in-law, Dan Miller, step grandchildren, Margaret, Phillip, Sandra Perea and last but not least his faithful feline companion Socks.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter-in-law, Jane, brothers, Billy and Leon Hardcastle, sister, Sarah Reid, brother-in-laws, Cliff Reid, Lou Bowers, sister-in-laws, LaRae Bowers and Delores Miller. Words cannot even begin to express our gratitude to his grandson, Jeff Johnson and his girlfriend Jesi Miller for caring for our dad with infinite love and patience for the last 7 years so he could remain living in the home that he loved. We would also like to thank Dan Miller for his weekly visits and daily phone calls. Joe Cordova for his life long friendship and Kristie Diehl for her care and devotion to our dad these last 2 years. A life well lived and loved.
