Herbert Joseph Oborn 'Herb'

1942 ~ 2024

Herbert Joseph Oborn "Herb" was born on November 17, 1942, and passed away on March 3, 2024, at the age of 81. Herb was born to Joseph Oborn and Elizabeth Jane Taylor Oborn in Salt Lake City, Utah and had two sisters, Beverly, and Joan. He graduated from Jordan High School and then served a mission in England.

He married Jerri Lynn Glenn on June 10, 1966, and had 4 amazing children, Stacy, Troy, Brooke, and Todd.

He enjoyed playing church basketball and played softball with a County Rec team for several years. Later in life he liked to play golf with his sons and friends.

He loved working with the Scouts and always said they were his boys and part of our family.

Herb worked for Mt. Bell, US West and retired from Qwest after 35 years. Anyone who knew dad knew that he always had a joke to tell and would repeat them over and over. Herbs favorite thing was spending time with his family, going to the cabin where he was the Horseshoe Champion. He liked to travel and went on many trips with friends Duane and Glenda to Hawaii, Branson, going on a cruise and of course Wendover.

His favorite time of year was Fall because that's when the BYU/Utah game was played and he loved to bet with his kids, because of course we were all Utah fans. After several years and many losses of his Cougars, mom put an end to the betting. The best part of his life were his grandkids. Alexandra (Luke), Tyler (Ryan), Baylee (Alan), Jordan (Eric) Mikenzie (Olimpya), Mason and Lexi
and his Great Grandkids, Lainee, Lane, Kennady, Magnolia, Caroline, and Cameron.

Herb is survived by his children Stacy (Mike), Troy (Karen), Brooke (Wayne) and Todd (Nikki) as well as his grandkids and great grandkids, sister Beverly, many nieces, and nephews, as well as other great nieces and great nephews. Herb was preceded in death by his wife Jerri, parents Joseph and Jane, father-in-law Ted, mother-in-law Donna, sister Joan, brother-in-law Melvin, sister-in-law Gayle, brother-in-law Steve, nephew Neil and other nieces and nephews and many friends.

Special thanks to lifelong friend Duane for always coming to visit him and bringing him apples and taking him on outings. He always remembered and cherished your friendship. Thanks to Carrington Court Memory Care for taking such good care of him these last few years and for Mindy at Hospice, for your loving care especially at the end.

The viewing for Herb will be on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 12:00 pm followed by a graveside service at 1:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South).

In the spirit of Herb's rivalry, his family will be wearing casual dress, BYU, or Utah clothing/hats. You are invited to do the same.
