Hunter Vaughn Nelson, 25, passed away in Provo, Utah on Friday, February 13, 2026, a tragic result of injuries sustained in a workplace accident. Our hearts are broken as we say goodbye, but know he lives on in the lives of 4 others through the gift of life he gave as an organ donor.
Hunter was born in Murray, Utah on October 20, 2000, the son to proud parents Rick and Shanii Nelson. As Hunter grew, his personality would grow with him, something that anyone who met him would come to know and love.
Hunter was a devoted father to his two beautiful girls, Jordan (6 months) and Gray (5 years). He was the best partner, sibling, son and friend. Hunter loved hard. Everyone he knew felt and immense amount of love and support from him. He gave the best hugs and wouldn’t let go until the other person melted into him.
Hunter had a love of music. He listened to music differently, cherishing the lyrics. He was an avid video gamer and found great joy in playing. There was something about the outdoors that Hunter loved. The rain gave him a sense of peace, camping and fishing fulfilled a sense of adventure and created many memories we now cherish with him.
Many knew Hunter and his sense of humor. He could make anyone laugh and was always cracking jokes. His personality was one of love and care. He would regularly make sure everyone around him had what they needed. He would help anyone and everyone without even thinking twice about it. Hunter never thought of himself first, always thinking of others, many times those who he never knew. His gift of life through organ donation was fitting and truly who he was is being able to help and care for others.
Hunter is survived by his parents Rick and Shanii, stepmother Jana, siblings Malakai Woodward, Akazia Humphrey, Jordan Nelson, Payton Nelson, Emily Nickle and Avery Nickle, girlfriend Sharri Hansen, his girls Gray Hansen and Jordan Nelson, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends who will all feel the void left by his passing.
He is preceded in passing by his grandma Midge, great-grandma Gene and uncle Bobby Woodward.
A Celebration of Hunter's life will take place from 2:00 to 5:00 pm on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Larkin Mortuary - Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South in Riverton, Utah. Please come in your joggers and sweatshirts just as Hunter would himself as we laugh and share our memories with one another.
So devastated learning my dearest of friends suddenly left this earth on 2-13-26. Only wish to god I had been here in Utah and not South Africa when all this happened!!!!!!!!!! I am numb and can barely get through each sorrowful day of gloom!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hunter was truly a man of integrity, loyalty, humor, steadfastness despite his human weaknesses we all as humans work to improve upon!!!!!!!!!!!! Hunters loyal friendship meant more to me than any amount of money. For eighteen very very short inspiring delightful years we laughed and cried over our joys and disappointments which were both more than at times we felt we wanted to endure!!!!! But we did for sure. Hunters honesty and compassion for others was inspiring to see. His beautiful daughters were the light of his life and loved and spoke often about as well as his sweetheart and the love of his life!!!!!!!!!!!!! Truly a ‘MAN’ to match our Utah ‘Mountains’ God bless his loving memory😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭❤️❣️❤️❣️❤️❣️❤️❣️❤️❣️❤️Your forever bro. BRENDON
