Susan Diane Rawsthorne Weeks

1945 ~ 2018

Susan Diane Rawsthorne Weeks peacefully passed away on October 22, 2018, in Sandy, Utah. She was surrounded by children and loved ones at the moment of her passing.

Born in Brooks Alberta Canada on November 22, 1945, Sue was the third of five daughters born to Clifford and Thelma Rawsthorne. Her father was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and she was deeply proud of her Canadian and Icelandic heritage.

Voted "Biggest Flirt" in high school, Sue modeled for department stores and newspaper ads. Upon graduation from high school in Calgary, she enrolled at BYU in Provo, Utah, and entered the nursing program. Sue began her nursing career at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, then worked at Primary Children's Medical Center. After taking 20 years off to raise her family, she then resumed her career working as a psyche nurse for troubled teens, and then as a recovery nurse at the LDS Hospital Surgical Center and Cottonwood Hospital, after which she finally retired.

She married Robert Gray Weeks on October 23, 1970, in Calgary Canada, and they were sealed shortly thereafter in the Salt Lake Temple. Sue raised her six children near the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon. She was able to travel the world and have some wonderful life experiences, but most of all she cherished her family and the life-long relationships she made with friends and neighbors in the community. Sue was known for her fresh jam and bread, contagious laughter, and kindness to everyone she encountered. Her children would periodically meet people who had received nursing care from her, and they always praised her compassion and kind nature. Her lifetime spent taking care of the comfort and well-being of others is truly one of her greatest legacies.

After retirement, she became a prodigious family historian, compiling beautiful and thorough histories of her parents and grandparents. She also served in the Jordan River Temple as part of the clerical staff, until a battle with Parkinson's disease eventually began to slow her down.

Susan is survived by all four of her sisters, Barbara (Gordon) Scott, Marilyn (John) Kvellestad, JoAnn (Gregory) Schwitzer, Carolyn (Brent) Thomas, and her 6 children: Tami (David) Morgan, Lori (Glenn) Jackson, Melanie (Christopher) Kirkland, Matthew Weeks, Joanna Weeks, and Diana Willardson. Sue is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Parker, Brynlee, Lauren, Olivia, Luke, Dillon, Alexandra, Samantha, Noah, Charlotte, Georgia, Bentley, and Reese. Her parents Thelma and Cliff, having preceded her in death, were no doubt there to join in welcoming her home.
