Betty W West

1920 ~ 2013

Our sweet mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Betty W. West, passed away peacefully September 9, 2013 at the age of 92. She was born December 4, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah to David Arnold and Isabelle Woolley West.

She attended Brigham Young University in 1938-39 and graduated from BYU 68 years later, at age 85.

She married her wonderful husband, John Everett West, on May 2, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were the parents of six children, Paul (Colleen), Carolyn Allred (Wallace), John (Lorraine), Nancy Riggs, Gary (Carol), and Alan (Julene).

Mom loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and served faithfully in many callings. She was a woman of integrity, strength, faith, and anxiously sought to bless the lives of others. She served two missions with her husband: one in Laie, Hawaii and the other in Liberty Jail, Missouri. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook and hostess and always made people feel welcome and loved in her home. The legacy she leaves behind will be felt by generations to come.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Everett West (What a joy their reunion must be!), her parents, her sisters, Beverly Monson, Eloise Ellis and Helen Driggs. She is survived by her sister, Wanda Badger, and her brother, David (Dixie) West, her children, 30 grandchildren, and 59 great grandchildren. Her first great-great grandchild will be born in October.

The family would like to thank Legacy House of Bountiful and Aspire Hospice for the tender care provided to her.

Funeral services for Betty will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013, at 11a.m. at the Winder Stake Center, located at 4366 South 1500 East, Salt Lake City, UT, where a viewing will be held on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday morning from 9:45 to 10:45 prior to the services. Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery. Please leave online messages and tributes at www.larkinmortuary.com.
