Darlene LaVerle Cole

1930 ~ 2018

Darlene passed away on December 13, 2018 at the age of 88. She was born on March 13, 1930 to George T. Colvin and Ethel P. Hayes in Magna, UT.

She married the love of her life James R. Cole in 1950, later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple in 1987. Darlene and her family moved to Kearns, UT in 1956 and immediately immersed herself into the community and its politics. She was a proud member of the Democratic Party and accomplished many things in her life. Darlene was instrumental in getting the first street lights installed in Kearns, fought fiercely to secure funding for the original Kearns Youth Center, now known as Kearns Recreation Center, and was the first PTA President of South Kearns Elementary. She loved the city of Kearns and believed in its value wholeheartedly.

Survived by her four children Vicky (Donald) Osness, Robert (Ava) Cole, Jerry (Jolene) Cole and Nancy (Orval) Rice; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 5 great great-grandchildren and a sister Naoma Teste. Preceded in death by husband James R. Cole; brothers Leo Colvin, Marion Colvin and Truman Colvin; sisters Wanelda Praszynski; and granddaughter Nicia Osness LaPiane.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018 beginning at Noon at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.) followed by a short graveside service held at 1PM. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
