Marjorie Irene Seare Lake

1927 ~ 2014

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Marjorie Irene Seare Lake passed away peacefullyon July 17, 2014,at the age of 86, surrounded by her family.

She was born September 1, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah, daughter of William Winterbourne Seare and Irene Elenore Tuckett. She was preceded in death by her lovinghusband of 67 years, Archibald William Lake "Bucks", and her siblings Bill Seare, Dave Seare, Dick Seare, and Jeane Seare Olsen. She is survived by her 7 children Jim (Isabel), Tom (Sharon), Pat Slade (Dub), Barb Thomas (Craig), John (Kelly), DeDe Machin (Jeff), Joann Gibb (Doug), her sister, Joanne Seare Raddatz, and countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On April 14, 1947, she married her sweetheart, A.W. Lake, in the Salt Lake LDS temple. She survived raising 7 free-spirited children and was the anchor of her rowdy, happy family. She was an amazing cook, and one of her greatest joys was cooking for and feeding all of her kids, grandkids, and many strays over the years. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a contagious smile, and was always quick to laugh at herself. She loved singing, telling stories and reciting poems and nursery rhymes to her grandchildren. She knew how to work hard, play hard, and take care of everyone she came in contact with. She was a wonderful example of Christ-like love.

She was active in the church and served faithfully in many callings throughout her life. She and her husband also served 3 years together as Data Processing Missionaries for the church.

She enjoyed working side-by-side for over 20 years with her husband and 7 children at their restaurant, "The Hungry Guy" which they opened in 1968 (1300 E. 300 S.). Later in life, she also tirelessly helped many of her children start successful businesses of their own.

She was a miraculous survivor of ovarian cancer in 1982, after enduring a year of chemotherapy and surgery. Her stubbornness and love of life was always one of her most endearing traits.

She was unmistakably the heart and soul of her family. She will be remembered for her wonderful cuddles, special grandma kisses, her amazing rolls, lemon merengue pies, and her famous "Hungry Guy" taco meat and "lettuce salad" will be missed by all.

We extend our love and appreciation to Our House Assisted Living in Sandy, Utah, and all of their amazingly patient and loving staff for taking care of our sweet mother during the last years of her life. Special thanks to Nicole and Beatrice, whom she loved dearly, and to Jennifer at Envision Hospice for taking care of her in her last days.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 3:00 PM at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 1950 East 10600 South Sandy, Utah.
