Richard Ronald Wailes

1924 ~ 2014

Richard Ronald Wailes passed through the veil and rejoined his life's companion, Mary, on April 24, 2014.

He was born to William John Wailes and Florence Matilda Teuscher on June 8, 1924 in Hazelton, Idaho. He moved to Salt Lake City with his mother in 1940 and graduated from West High School in 1942. On January 7, 1943 he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and spent nearly 2 years in India. After his discharge from the service in 1946, he returned to Salt Lake City. Married Mary Behunin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 21, 1946. Dick spent 40 years working in the commercial tire business, the last ten as President of Transport Tire Co. After retirement, he and Mary served an LDS Service Mission in the Employment Centers in Mesa, Arizona and Sandy, Utah. He and Mary traveled to 35 countries, all 50 states and enjoyed several cruises together. Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman who taught his children the joy of the outdoors.

He is survived by his children: daughter Janice Lucherini, Las Vegas, NV, sons Ric (Kathe), Collin and Doyle, 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, brother William Davis, sisters Virgina Davis and Lou Nepolis. Preceded in death by his wife Mary, parents, sister Helen and son Ronald.

Services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Wasatch Stake Center, 8170 Short Hills Drive (3400 East), Cottonwood Heights, Utah. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy and on Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:30am prior to the services at the church.
