Mae Kain Tang

1925 ~ 2015

Mae Kain Tang passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family, Thursday, November 12 2015. Mae was born in Kaiping, China on October 15, 1925. She married William (Bill) H. Tang on March 11, 1947 and immigrated to the USA shortly after. With her husband she raised 5 children. In 1954, she and Bill open and operated United Market, a grocery store formerly on 600 South and 300 West. In 1965 they opened a second store, Super Save, on 900 South and 400 East.

Mae was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Memorable times were spent at Grandma's house where she passed on her Chinese traditions and cooking skills.

Mae is survived by her sons, Paul (LaVerne) Tang of Broomfield, CO, and Chuck (Meagan) Tang of Salt Lake City, UT; and daughters, Dane (Keith) Hansen of Providence, UT; Ying Tang of Salt Lake City, UT; Jean (Peter) Adams of Portland, OR; and 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mae was preceded in death by her husband and her brother, Ken Yee of Vancouver BC.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 2:00pm at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, SLC, UT. Viewing starts at 12 noon, 2 hours prior to services.
